The Senior Specialist – Open Pit Mine Planning role provides strategic mine planning expertise to support operating assets and mining projects across Africa. The position is responsible for developing long-term mine planning strategies, supporting reserve and business planning processes, conducting technical studies, and providing specialist guidance to site teams to optimize operational performance and long-term value.

Responsibilities

• Develop and evaluate strategic open pit mine planning options to maximize operational value and support long-term business objectives
• Support mining sites with mine designs, production schedules, annual budgets, and planning activities
• Lead or contribute to technical mining studies during concept, pre-feasibility, and feasibility project stages
• Analyze operational performance against production targets, budgets, and cost forecasts
• Support mineral reserve reporting, technical assurance processes, and standardization of mine planning practices across operations
• Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and value creation
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and planning support to mine engineering and planning teams
• Contribute to annual mining rate reviews and tender evaluation processes where required
• Ensure mine planning activities comply with company standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements

Qualifications Required

• Degree in Mining Engineering or another relevant mining-related discipline
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in open pit mining operations and mine planning
• Strong proficiency in mine planning software, including Whittle
• Experience in mine design, production scheduling, budgeting, and reserve estimation processes
• Practical understanding of the mining value chain, including geology, geotechnical engineering, metallurgy, mining operations, and project development
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Sound commercial and financial analysis skills
• Knowledge of risk management principles within mining operations
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a dynamic environment
• Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams
• Willingness to undertake extensive business travel across operations
