The National Housing Corporation (NHC) is a public institution mandated to develop and facilitate the provision of quality housing and commercial buildings across Tanzania. Established under Act No. 45 of 1962 and reconstituted under Act No. 2 of 1990, the Corporation operates on commercial principles while continuing to fulfill its mandate of addressing urban housing challenges. In line with its vision of becoming a leading real estate development and management firm in Africa, NHC is seeking to recruit qualified and competent Tanzanians for the position of Safety Officer.
The Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental standards across construction and operational sites within the Corporation. The officer will play a key role in promoting workplace safety awareness, minimizing occupational risks, and ensuring compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensuring the Corporation complies with all health and safety regulations as instructed by OSHA.
- Investigating causes of accidents and identifying unsafe conditions at construction and operational sites.
- Providing health and safety training and education to employees, contractors, visitors, and all personnel at project sites.
- Assessing risks and identifying potential hazards associated with all aspects of operations.
- Minimizing and preventing activities that may cause environmental pollution, including air pollution, water pollution, and noise pollution.
- Conducting regular safety observations to assess compliance with safety standards, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and site safety procedures while providing safety coaching where necessary.
- Preparing weekly and monthly safety statistics and trend reports.
- Assisting in the implementation of occupational health and safety management systems at construction sites.
- Performing any other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualification and Experience
Applicants must possess:
- A Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science and Management, or related fields from a recognized institution.
- A valid Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) Certificate in Construction.
Salary Scale
The successful candidate will be appointed under Salary Scale TC 3.
Applicants must also meet the following general conditions:
- Must be a Tanzanian citizen aged not above 45 years.
- Must be willing to work anywhere within the United Republic of Tanzania.
- Must attach an updated Curriculum Vitae (CV) with reliable contact details, including postal address, email, and telephone numbers.
- Must submit certified copies of academic certificates, transcripts, Form IV and VI certificates, professional certificates, and a birth certificate.
- Result slips, testimonials, and partial transcripts will not be accepted.
- Must provide names and valid contacts of three reputable referees.
- Applicants with foreign qualifications must ensure verification by NECTA, TCU, or NACTE where applicable.
- Applicants with special needs or disabilities are encouraged to indicate them clearly in their applications.
