Compassionate Carbon Tanzania Limited is seeking an experienced Reforestation + Restoration Manager to lead large-scale forest restoration initiatives in Morogoro, Tanzania. This role is designed for a highly skilled forestry and environmental professional with strong project management experience in ecological restoration and landscape-level conservation work.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, planning, and implementing reforestation programs, managing nursery operations, and coordinating restoration activities across multiple sites. The role also involves team leadership, stakeholder engagement, and ensuring all restoration activities meet ecological, carbon, and organizational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, assess, and secure new restoration sites in line with organizational targets and priorities.
  • Develop and implement reforestation strategies that optimize carbon sequestration and biodiversity outcomes.
  • Conduct landscape assessments and stakeholder consultations to guide restoration planning.
  • Design species selection plans, planting techniques, and ecosystem restoration strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational SOPs for species selection and approved planting lists.
  • Develop workplans, budgets, and implementation schedules for restoration projects.
  • Oversee establishment and management of large-scale tree nurseries, including seed collection and propagation.
  • Monitor nursery performance, germination rates, and seedling survival, resolving technical issues when necessary.
  • Coordinate planting schedules and manage seedling supply chains for timely field operations.
  • Collaborate with internal departments including MEAL/MRV, technical teams, marketing, and leadership.
  • Liaise with NGOs, CBOs, and external partners to support restoration programs.
  • Monitor regional restoration initiatives and report insights to senior leadership.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partners and stakeholders at local and international levels.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage restoration and nursery teams to achieve performance targets.
  • Promote continuous improvement and capacity building within the team.
  • Ensure effective project delivery, including planning, reporting, and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Manage competing priorities, budgets, and project timelines effectively.
  • Support community-based engagement and natural resource management initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Horticulture, Botany, Environmental Sciences, Monitoring and Evaluation, or related field.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in forest restoration, commercial forestry, or tree-crop production.
  • Strong experience in project management within environmental or ecological restoration programs.
  • Proven experience establishing and managing community-based nurseries.
  • Strong understanding of forest ecosystems and landscape-level ecological processes in Tanzania.
  • Knowledge of native tree species and ecological restoration practices.
  • Experience managing project budgets, reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders in multicultural environments.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including use of planning tools.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of community engagement practices in natural resource management.
  • Legal authorization to work in Tanzania is required.
