Project Communications Officer
Job Description
This role is a project-level communications position responsible for managing all communication activities for Swisscontact’s PropelA project in Tanzania. The focus is on promoting a dual apprenticeship model in electrical installation and plumbing to improve youth employability and strengthen vocational training systems.
It is a practical and strategic communications role that combines storytelling, media engagement, stakeholder coordination, and digital content creation. The officer ensures that project results, impact stories, and learning outputs are effectively communicated to donors, partners, media, and the public.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the project communications strategy aligned with project objectives
- Prepare and execute annual communication plans and budgets
- Create high-quality communication materials including articles, press releases, speeches, presentations, and social media content
- Ensure all materials comply with Swisscontact branding and donor communication standards
- Promote the dual apprenticeship model among TVET institutions and construction sector stakeholders
- Coordinate with regional and cross-country communication teams to ensure alignment and knowledge sharing
- Organize stakeholder events, donor visits, and partner engagement activities
- Represent Swisscontact at external events and strengthen institutional visibility
- Manage media relations and ensure consistent coverage of project activities
- Monitor media mentions and maintain communication archives (photos, videos, reports)
- Update website and manage social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, X/Twitter)
- Develop and implement social media communication plans
- Produce success stories, case studies, and learning documentation with technical teams
- Support knowledge management systems including stakeholder databases and communication repositories
- Provide editing, proofreading, and layout support for donor-facing documents
- Advise project management on communication risks and opportunities
- Ensure integration of gender equality and inclusion principles in all communication outputs
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Mass Communication, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in professional communications roles
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills in English and Kiswahili
- Experience in strategic communication planning and implementation
- Strong digital communication and social media management skills
- Experience in media relations and stakeholder engagement
- Skills in graphic design, video production, or animation are an added advantage
- Experience working with international NGOs or donor-funded projects preferred
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Knowledge management and documentation experience is an advantage
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders
