Job Description

Turkys Mifuko is a manufacturing company based in Zanzibar specializing in the production of high-quality non-woven bags and packaging products. The company is focused on improving operational efficiency, maintaining high manufacturing standards, and delivering quality products through continuous process improvement and strong production management.

The Production Manager will lead all factory production operations from raw material input to finished goods output. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for driving production performance, improving efficiency, reducing waste, maintaining quality standards, and developing high-performing production teams while supporting the company’s operational transformation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all production sections, including Fabric Production (Extrusion & Slitting), Bag Conversion, Paper Bags, and Printing
  • Plan and schedule daily, weekly, and monthly production based on customer orders and inventory requirements
  • Ensure production targets are achieved on time, within quality specifications, and at planned material consumption rates
  • Monitor machine utilization and implement initiatives to improve production efficiency and equipment uptime
  • Coordinate raw material requirements with the Inventory team to prevent production interruptions
  • Enforce quality standards across all production processes, including extrusion yield, GSM accuracy, bag dimensions, and seal integrity
  • Monitor, analyze, and reduce production waste across all manufacturing sections
  • Investigate production quality issues and implement effective corrective actions
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of production data, including extrusion logs, roll production, bag production, and daily production summaries
  • Analyze production data to identify yield gaps, machine performance issues, and operator productivity improvements
  • Prepare and submit daily and weekly production performance reports to the General Manager
  • Manage and continuously improve the production Key Performance Indicator (KPI) dashboard
  • Identify opportunities to improve production planning, shift management, staffing levels, and operational efficiency
  • Optimize production processes and roll utilization across different product lines
  • Lead the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions throughout all production sections
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop production section heads and factory operators
  • Establish and monitor KPIs for all production teams and conduct regular performance evaluations
  • Build a culture of accountability, operational discipline, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the factory
  • Identify staff training needs and coordinate skills development programs for operators and technicians
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance team to ensure preventive maintenance schedules are completed and machine availability is maximized

Qualifications Required

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Management, or a related field
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • At least three years of experience in a factory management or production leadership role
  • Experience in plastics, packaging, or non-woven manufacturing is a strong advantage
  • Proven ability to manage multi-section production operations and improve manufacturing yield
  • Experience in production planning, scheduling, and capacity management
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel for production analysis and reporting
  • Familiarity with ISO documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Quality Management Systems (QMS)
  • Experience leading and developing factory teams of more than 40 employees
  • Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing processes and production troubleshooting
  • Results-oriented with the ability to set targets and drive team performance
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Hands-on leadership approach with regular presence on the factory floor
  • Excellent process improvement and systems development skills
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and people management abilities
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills
