Barrick is seeking a qualified Production Geologist to join its Africa Middle East team in Kahama, Tanzania. This role is suited for experienced geology professionals who are skilled in production planning, geological modeling, and ore flow management within large-scale mining operations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting mine production by providing accurate geological data, updating 3D models, reviewing production plans, and ensuring smooth coordination of ore flow from underground operations to processing areas. The role requires strong technical expertise, leadership ability, and close collaboration with mine planning and operational teams.
Responsibilities
- Review weekly planned versus actual production against weekly and monthly plans.
- Provide development meters, tonnes, and grades for monthly schedules and forecasts.
- Ensure exposed headings are mapped and updated daily without disrupting production.
- Update lithological, structural, and alteration 3D models using Vulcan and Leapfrog software.
- Maintain updated level plans including lithology, mineralization, and structural data.
- Load and verify stope shapes and development cuts in Vulcan before drilling and blasting.
- Ensure timely preparation of stope notes and closure reports.
- Prepare Mining Instructions and ensure all geological inputs are accurately included.
- Support resource teams in updating block models with depletion and production data.
- Supervise and coordinate ore flow from underground to ROM pad.
- Conduct periodic truck factor tests to verify tonnage and density accuracy.
- Ensure accurate and timely production reporting (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly).
- Participate in training and development programs for geologists and technicians.
- Support supervision and mentoring of geological technicians and assistants.
- Ensure staff development plans (IDPs) are implemented within timelines.
- Conduct performance reviews and support professional development processes.
- Maintain compliance with reporting structures and communication protocols.
- Integrate effectively with other mine operational departments.
- Ensure proper documentation, records management, and safe data storage.
- Maintain compliance with mining instructions, safety reports, and risk assessments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mine or exploration geology.
- Experience with mining software such as Vulcan, Leapfrog, Micromine, or similar.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal).
- Ability to work independently and take initiative on projects.
- Proven leadership, supervisory, and training experience.
- Strong commitment to occupational health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Experience working with geological databases and reporting systems.
- Valid Tanzanian driving license (Class B, C, D, and E).
- Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles.
- Strong work ethic, discipline, and ability to perform under pressure.
