JTI is seeking a Packer Mechanic to support the factory’s mechanical maintenance and repair functions. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring optimal performance of cigarette-making machinery through preventive maintenance, equipment repairs, troubleshooting, and production support activities. This role plays a critical part in maximizing machine efficiency, minimizing downtime, and maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and operational performance.

Responsibilities

• Execute and support activities aimed at achieving production targets, quality standards, efficiency goals, waste reduction targets, and machine reliability objectives
• Operate production machinery according to technical manuals, operating procedures, and safety guidelines
• Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety, and production procedures at all times
• Perform operator and service operator duties during vacations, breaks, training sessions, meals, and other operational requirements
• Monitor machine downtime and waste levels and implement corrective actions to improve performance
• Conduct planned preventive maintenance and repair activities on production equipment
• Troubleshoot equipment failures and ensure timely restoration of machine functionality
• Implement and monitor actions required to achieve spare parts utilization targets
• Complete and maintain all production, maintenance, quality, and traceability records accurately
• Enter and update operational data in systems such as QIMS, SDE, shift handover logbooks, and SDM tools
• Monitor and complete PM cards, defect reports, cleaning and inspection logs, and maintenance tasks
• Identify environmental, health, and safety hazards and ensure appropriate control measures are implemented
• Participate in EHS training programs and maintain compliance with safety requirements and workplace regulations
• Report accidents, near-miss incidents, unsafe conditions, and unsafe behaviors promptly
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, maintenance, and operational efficiency
• Ensure compliance with company policies, quality standards, environmental regulations, and local legal requirements

Qualifications Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline
• Minimum of 2–3 years of work experience in a production or manufacturing environment is an added advantage
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
• Knowledge of SAP systems and intermediate understanding of SAP production processes
• Fluency in both written and spoken English and Swahili
• Advanced understanding of production machinery principles and mechanical systems
• Strong mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair skills
• Operational knowledge of quality management systems and pest management practices
• Advanced knowledge of production processes and manufacturing operations
• Understanding of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) requirements and machine maintenance systems
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet production targets
• Good teamwork, communication, and organizational skills
