Job Description

SNV Tanzania is seeking a motivated Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Intern to support project monitoring, data management, reporting, and learning activities for the Empowering Smallholder Farmers for Food Security and Climate Resilience (NOURISH Tanzania) project. The internship offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in monitoring and evaluation systems, digital data collection, data quality assurance, reporting, and evidence-based decision-making within a development project environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, field staff, partners, and stakeholders to ensure timely collection, verification, analysis, and reporting of project data. This role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career professionals interested in monitoring and evaluation, research, data management, and development programming.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development, deployment, and management of digital data collection tools using Kobo Toolbox, ODK, or similar platforms.
  • Coordinate with field officers, enumerators, CSOs, and extension staff during data collection activities.
  • Review submitted datasets for completeness, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Centralize datasets into databases, Excel files, and other reusable data products.
  • Maintain organized digital and physical MEL records.
  • Support routine data cleaning, validation, and quality assurance processes.
  • Participate in field monitoring visits and spot checks.
  • Verify reported activities and indicator achievements.
  • Compile routine indicator tracking data and monitor progress against project targets.
  • Support preparation of activity reports, quarterly reports, and annual reports.
  • Document outcome harvesting evidence, success stories, lessons learned, and field observations.
  • Generate summaries, tables, charts, trend analyses, and data gap reports using Excel and related tools.
  • Support organization of learning events, review meetings, and reflection sessions.
  • Follow up with partners on data submissions and reporting timelines.
  • Assist with logistics for surveys, assessments, and monitoring activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Monitoring & Evaluation, Statistics, Agricultural Economics, ICT, Data Science, Data Management, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Up to 2 years of relevant experience in MEL, research, project data management, or related areas, including internships, volunteer work, or research projects.
  • Experience using KoboToolbox, ODK, or similar digital data collection systems.
  • Proficiency in developing digital data collection tools using XLSForms.
  • Experience working with agriculture, nutrition, or development projects.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, Pivot Tables, and data validation tools.
  • Basic data analysis and reporting skills.
  • Good documentation and record management skills.
  • Experience with dashboard development and data visualization.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, GIS tools, R, SPSS, Stata, or other statistical software is an added advantage.
  • Possession of a valid motorcycle license is an added advantage.
