Job Description
Hannah Bennie School (HBS) was established to provide children in Kigamboni with access to high-quality English-medium education close to home. As part of its holistic approach to education, the school is committed to ensuring a safe, structured, and supportive boarding environment where students are guided, cared for, and nurtured beyond the classroom.
To strengthen its boarding section, HBS is seeking a responsible and caring Dormitory Supervisor to oversee the wellbeing, discipline, and daily routines of boarding students. The successful candidate will ensure a safe and structured residential environment that promotes good conduct, personal development, and student welfare.
Responsibilities:
- Provide pastoral care, supervision, and discipline for boarding students outside classroom hours
- Oversee dormitory cleanliness, hygiene, order, and daily student welfare routines
- Manage daily schedules including wake-up routines, meals, study time, recreation, and lights-out
- Monitor student health conditions, administer basic first aid, and escort sick students to medical facilities when necessary
- Enforce child protection and safeguarding policies at all times to ensure student safety
- Coordinate closely with teachers, school nurses, parents, and administration regarding student welfare and behaviour
- Maintain accurate dormitory registers, attendance records, incident reports, and inventory of student belongings
- Support students in developing discipline, responsibility, and positive behaviour habits
- Respond to emergencies and ensure timely reporting of incidents to management
- Promote a supportive and respectful boarding environment for all students
Qualification Required:
- Diploma or Certificate in Education, Counselling, Social Work, Nursing, or a related field
- At least three years of experience working with children in a boarding school, hostel, or residential care setting
- Mature, disciplined, caring, and responsible personality with strong moral character
- Good communication skills in Swahili and basic English
- Valid Certificate of Good Conduct and medical fitness certificate
- Basic computer literacy for maintaining student records and communication systems
- Strong interpersonal, supervisory, and conflict-resolution skills
