Job Description

To support its expanding engineering, irrigation, and agricultural development projects, Bagamoyo Sugar Limited is seeking a qualified and motivated Land Surveyor to join its team in Pwani Region. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting land surveys, collecting and analyzing survey data, preparing maps and reports, maintaining survey equipment, and ensuring that all surveying activities meet established quality and accuracy standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field data collection, monitoring, mapping, and survey record management
  • Prepare survey reports and technical documentation based on collected field data
  • Ensure accurate and high-quality survey data collection in accordance with established procedures
  • Review and verify survey data for completeness, consistency, and accuracy
  • Prepare contour maps, topographical maps, and survey drawings for project planning and execution
  • Calculate and assess earthwork quantities for engineering and construction projects
  • Ensure all survey work complies with the Survey Code of Practice and required accuracy standards
  • Establish survey control points and benchmarks for project activities
  • Support engineering, irrigation, civil works, and agricultural development projects with accurate survey information
  • Monitor, maintain, and safeguard survey instruments and equipment
  • Conduct routine inspections, calibration checks, and permissible adjustments on survey equipment
  • Track equipment performance and coordinate specialized maintenance and repairs when required
  • Maintain accurate survey records, field notes, maps, and digital databases
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to support project implementation
  • Assist in site planning, layout verification, and construction monitoring activities
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management

Qualification Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geomatics Surveying or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
  • Minimum of one to two years of relevant work experience in engineering operations, road construction, canal construction, pipeline projects, or related fields
  • Proficiency in operating TS16 Total Station equipment
  • Proficiency in the use of Dumpy Level surveying instruments
  • Strong working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software
  • Strong proficiency in Civil 3D software
  • Experience using Earthwork software for quantity calculations and terrain analysis
  • Experience in irrigation and civil engineering projects will be an added advantage
  • Strong understanding of land surveying principles, procedures, and standards
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Strong technical reporting and record-keeping abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to maintaining survey quality and operational excellence
