Barrick Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking three experienced Jumbo Operator Trainers to support its underground mining operations in Shinyanga, Tanzania. This role is ideal for highly skilled mining professionals with strong jumbo drilling experience and a passion for training and developing others in a high-performance mining environment.
The successful candidates will be responsible for training, supervising, and improving jumbo drilling operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective underground development. The role combines hands-on equipment operation with technical training and mentorship of junior operators within the mine.
Responsibilities
- Perform pre-inspection of jumbo drilling equipment before use.
- Tram jumbo equipment to designated underground work areas.
- Set up drilling machines and prepare faces for drilling operations.
- Install underground ground support systems.
- Conduct drilling operations according to mining plans and safety standards.
- Ensure blasting holes are properly cleaned and prepared.
- Carry out charging activities in line with procedures.
- Remove, clean, and maintain equipment after operations.
- Train, mentor, and supervise trainees and junior operators.
- Provide technical, practical, and field-based training support.
- Improve operational efficiency, productivity, and drilling effectiveness.
- Promote best practices in jumbo drilling operations.
- Record and report drilling performance and operational data.
- Monitor and control drilling cycles and operational efficiency.
- Ensure all incidents are reported and investigated according to company procedures.
- Comply with Barrick safety standards and Mines Health & Safety regulations.
- Maintain safe underground working practices at all times.
Qualifications
- College or technical training equivalent to at least two (2) years of study.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience operating single and double boom jumbo rigs.
- Strong experience in large-scale underground mining operations.
- Ability to read and interpret ground support designs.
- Basic electrical and mechanical knowledge of jumbo drilling equipment.
- Strong communication skills in English (oral and written).
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Strong team orientation and results-driven mindset.
- High level of safety awareness and discipline.
- Strong underground drilling and equipment operation skills.
- Ability to train, mentor, and develop junior staff.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure.
