Geologist Job Vacancy at Barrick North Mara Gold Mine
Barrick is seeking a qualified Geologist to join its North Mara Gold Mine team in Tarime, Tanzania. This role is ideal for professionals passionate about mine geology, grade control, and data-driven decision-making in a large-scale mining environment.
The successful candidate will support mining operations through geological interpretation, sampling, reporting, and ore control activities. The role plays a key part in ensuring safe, efficient, and optimized production while maintaining compliance with Barrick’s high safety and operational standards.
Responsibilities
- Follow all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
- Provide safety leadership to staff, contractors, and partners.
- Ensure compliance with company and legal safety standards.
- Conduct 3D geological interpretation including sections, maps, and block models.
- Support ore polygon creation and geological model updates.
- Prepare drill pads and coordinate drilling activities.
- Conduct ore analysis, sampling, and risk assessments.
- Ensure QA/QC procedures for samples and assay processes are followed.
- Manage ore reconciliation and dilution control processes.
- Use geological systems such as OREPro and ore movement technologies.
- Monitor production sites, stockpiles, and grade updates.
- Contribute to mine planning and operational decision-making.
- Collaborate with survey, metallurgy, geotechnical, and operations teams.
- Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly geological reports.
- Support grade control, dilution control, and recovery optimization activities.
- Supervise and mentor geological technicians and assistants.
- Support training and professional development of junior staff.
- Promote continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Oversee grade control drilling and contractor performance.
- Manage geological budgets and operational efficiency.
- Ensure safe operation of manual transmission vehicles.
- Maintain accurate geological and mining documentation.
- Monitor geological risks and flitch performance.
- Ensure timely submission of all required reports and documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in mine or exploration geology.
- Experience using mining software such as Vulcan, Leapfrog, Micromine, or similar.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Leadership or supervisory experience is an added advantage.
- Strong commitment to occupational health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Valid driver’s license with ability to operate manual transmission vehicles.
