Job Description

Kitengule Hospital is recruiting a General Practitioner (GP) to provide frontline medical care across a broad range of patient conditions in Dar es Salaam. The role focuses on diagnosing, treating, and managing common illnesses and emergencies, ensuring patients receive timely and appropriate care, and coordinating referrals to specialists when cases fall outside general practice scope.

This is a core clinical role within the hospital’s service delivery system, requiring strong diagnostic ability, sound clinical judgment, and a patient-centered approach in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient consultations, physical examinations, diagnosis, and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions.
  • Manage common illnesses and medical emergencies within general practice scope.
  • Refer patients to appropriate specialists or higher-level care when necessary.
  • Request, interpret, and apply laboratory, radiological, and other diagnostic test results to guide treatment.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely patient records and documentation.
  • Participate in hospital quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with clinical protocols and standards.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care.
  • Perform additional clinical duties assigned by hospital management as needed.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from a recognized institution.
  • Completion of a recognized medical internship program.
  • Valid registration with the Medical Council of Tanganyika (MCT) and a current practicing license.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a General Practitioner.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and decision-making abilities.
  • Commitment to medical ethics, professionalism, and patient-centered care.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure clinical environment.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and on-call duties as required.
