Job Description

BRAC Tanzania Finance Limited is inviting applications from highly experienced and results-driven finance professionals for the position of Financial Controller based in Dar es Salaam. This senior leadership role presents an excellent opportunity for seasoned finance experts to join one of the leading financial institutions committed to financial inclusion and sustainable development.

The successful candidate will serve as the guardian of financial integrity and the second line of defense by overseeing the entire financial control environment across a complex decentralized operation. The role requires ensuring that all financial information is accurate, auditable, and actionable, from branch-level transactions to consolidated Board and regulatory reporting, while supporting strategic decision-making and organizational growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the financial close process and ensure timely, accurate, and audit-ready financial reporting.
  • Maintain strong financial controls, data integrity, and governance frameworks across the organization.
  • Conduct financial performance analysis and variance reviews and provide actionable insights to management.
  • Strengthen fraud prevention mechanisms, monitor financial risks, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure timely submission of reports to management, the Board, regulators, lenders, and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee financial governance of procurement and contracting processes.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies, approval frameworks, and value-for-money principles.
  • Strengthen controls over organizational expenditure and vendor management.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, VAT requirements, statutory obligations, regulatory requirements, and financial reporting standards.
  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Monitor organizational performance against budgets and strategic objectives.
  • Provide scenario analysis and financial insights to support decision-making and capital management.
  • Manage relationships with auditors, tax advisors, regulators, rating agencies, development partners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate audits and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
  • Lead finance systems optimization and automation initiatives.
  • Drive effective use of Temenos T24, Power BI, and other digital tools.
  • Improve efficiency, controls, and management decision-making through continuous process improvements.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing finance and controllership team.
  • Drive staff development, succession planning, and leadership growth.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote safeguarding policies and ensure the safety and wellbeing of team members.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in finance and controllership.
  • At least five (5) years of experience serving as Financial Controller, Deputy Financial Controller, or Head of Controls within a large bank, microfinance institution (MFI), or non-bank financial institution (NBFI) managing a portfolio exceeding TZS 150 billion.
  • Strong technical experience with Core Banking Systems, particularly Temenos T24.
  • Extensive knowledge of IFRS 9, Bank of Tanzania regulations, and Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) compliance requirements.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Proficiency in Power BI.
  • Knowledge of SQL is required.
  • Experience in Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Python programming is an added advantage.
  • Professional accounting qualifications such as CPA (T), ACCA, ACA, or equivalent are mandatory.
  • MBA qualification will be an added advantage.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and crisis management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • High level of integrity and proven ability to maintain effective internal controls.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle highly confidential information.
