Job Description
Kilombero Sugar Company Limited is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced professionals for the position of Estate Agriculture Director based in Morogoro, Tanzania. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing agricultural strategies aimed at enhancing cane supply, improving productivity, and ensuring operational excellence across estate operations. Working closely with senior management, growers, and key stakeholders, the Estate Agriculture Director will play a critical role in promoting innovation, sustainability, and business performance within the agricultural function.
Responsibilities
- Develop long-term cane supply strategies, agricultural plans, and yield forecasts.
- Formulate and implement annual agricultural operations plans for crop establishment, husbandry, and crop removal.
- Drive innovation and adoption of new agricultural technologies and sustainable farming practices.
- Build and develop a strong agriculture leadership team through coaching, mentoring, and talent development.
- Promote a high-performance culture and ensure effective performance management practices.
- Drive operational excellence to achieve optimal yields, quality, and cost efficiencies.
- Ensure compliance with group standards, processes, and best practices in crop production, agronomy, harvesting, engineering, and cane supply.
- Provide technical support and oversight to grower agriculture programmes.
- Foster collaboration and synergies with Group Agriculture teams to enhance operational efficiency.
- Manage relationships with growers, stakeholders, and third-party suppliers.
- Monitor and report agricultural performance to executive management and Group Agriculture leadership.
- Develop business cases for capital investment projects and oversee their implementation.
- Identify and manage agricultural risks using approved mitigation systems and processes.
- Coordinate knowledge sharing, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives across the agricultural function.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, SHERQ standards, Competition Law, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption policies.
- Establish systems and processes that support operational success and sustainable growth.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Development, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum of ten years of experience in sugar cane agriculture, including cane supply and grower optimization.
- At least five years of experience in a senior agricultural operations role managing more than 3,000 hectares.
- Strong knowledge and expertise in sugar cane production and agricultural operations.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills.
- Strong agricultural data analysis and decision-making capabilities.
- Good business acumen with the ability to anticipate and respond to industry changes.
- A formal business or commercial qualification will be an added advantage.
