This role is a senior regional technical advisory position focused on environmental sustainability and climate change programming across East Africa. The Senior Advisor works with country field offices to integrate climate action, strengthen environmental stewardship systems, and ensure programmes align with global climate and development frameworks.

It sits at a strategic level within World Vision, meaning the role is less about field implementation and more about shaping policy, securing climate finance, building partnerships, and guiding large-scale environmental and resilience programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership on environmental stewardship and climate action (ESCA) across field offices in East Africa
  • Support implementation and compliance of environmental policies and integrated climate programming
  • Develop technical materials such as case studies, capability statements, and funding proposals
  • Strengthen field office capacity for climate finance readiness, including Green Climate Fund (GCF) processes
  • Identify and secure large-scale climate funding opportunities (GCF, Adaptation Fund, AfDB, etc.)
  • Support development of bankable climate projects and investment-ready proposals
  • Build partnerships with donors, multilateral agencies, research institutions, and climate finance actors
  • Represent the organization in regional and global climate and sustainability platforms
  • Promote carbon footprint reduction and environmental accountability across programmes
  • Support design and rollout of integrated programming models (e.g., regenerative agriculture, DRR, CVA)
  • Conduct capacity-building, training, and technical support for field offices
  • Contribute to strategic planning linking humanitarian, development, and climate resilience work
  • Support monitoring and reporting of environmental and climate KPIs across the region

Qualifications Required

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Climate Change, or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in International Development, Program Management, or related discipline (added advantage)
  • At least 5+ years of experience in climate change, environmental stewardship, or ESG programming
  • Strong experience in donor-funded programming (UN, bilateral donors, climate finance institutions)
  • Proven experience in proposal development, resource mobilization, and project design
  • Strong understanding of climate frameworks, environmental policy, and sustainability programming
  • Experience working in both humanitarian and development contexts
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and build partnerships
  • Strong writing, analytical, and strategic planning skills
  • Experience facilitating training, capacity building, and technical advisory support
  • Knowledge of climate finance mechanisms and global environmental funding structures
