Full Job Description
Ifakara Health Institute is a leading health research organization in Africa known for developing, testing, and validating health innovations through research, training, and service delivery. The institute conducts research in biomedical sciences, ecological sciences, intervention studies, health systems, and policy translation aimed at improving healthcare outcomes across the region.
Through the PfVIMT Project, Ifakara Health Institute is seeking to recruit one qualified and experienced Clinical Officer to work at clinical research sites located in Bagamoyo. The successful candidate will support clinical trial activities including participant recruitment, screening, clinical care, data management, and community engagement activities in accordance with approved study protocols and Good Clinical Practice standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend community sensitization meetings for study volunteers
- Treat patients according to National Standard Treatment Guidelines
- Review laboratory results and resolve queries related to collected data
- Attend internal and external meetings conducted during the study
- Attend departmental meetings during each financial year
- Participate in the development of study SOPs and other study documents
- Conduct recruitment and enrollment visits according to specified protocols and SOPs
- Ensure study protocols, SOPs, and related study documents are properly communicated and followed by all study personnel
- Ensure ethical requirements approved by review boards are followed throughout the study
- Supervise study procedures according to approved protocols, ICH Guidelines, and local regulations
- Maintain professionalism, accountability, integrity, and ethical conduct
- Build trust, improve communication, and support successful project outcomes
- Support study and community engagement coordinators in planning and coordinating study activities with health facilities and stakeholders
- Support sensitization and recruitment activities for intended studies
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the project leader

Essential Qualifications
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine
Required Experience
- At least one year of work experience in clinical research
- Must be enrolled and licensed to practice as a Clinical Officer by the Medical Council of Tanganyika
Preferred Language Skills
- Fluency in both Swahili and English
