Full Job Description
GIZ is a federally owned enterprise operating worldwide to support the German Government in achieving its international cooperation and sustainable development objectives. In Tanzania and across the East African region, GIZ works closely with the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the East African Community to support development initiatives in various sectors, including water resources management and climate resilience.
The GIZ Water Programme has supported Tanzania’s water sector for more than 30 years through policy advice, institutional strengthening, climate change adaptation, water resources management, and improved access to water supply and sanitation services. Under the ProWaS project, GIZ is implementing the Water4Future initiative, an innovative approach focused on improving water security and climate resilience through integrated adaptation solutions, climate risk analysis, digital tools, and financing strategies for climate-resilient water investments.
The position is based in Dodoma under a fixed-term contract arrangement.
Responsibilities
- Support the GIZ Water4Future project team in activities related to project pipeline information at the sub-national level
- Support activities for conducting sub-national climate risk and water resource assessments
- Support identification and prioritization of climate-resilient water investment opportunities
- Assist in participatory stakeholder consultation workshops for developing project pipelines for climate-resilient water adaptation projects
- Participate in preparation or adjustment of detailed project designs and analysis of financiers and financing criteria
- Support preparation of full investment proposals and documentation in collaboration with consultants, the GIZ Water4Future project team, and stakeholders
- Support preparation of preliminary technical and financial assessments for ready-to-finance projects
- Assist in cost estimation, financing plans, and financial gap analysis for project pipelines
- Support data collection and analysis for monetary and non-monetary costs and benefits of ready-to-finance projects
- Participate in preparation of detailed financial models, including estimation of Economic Internal Rate of Return (EIRR) and Economic Net Present Value (ENPV)
- Support cost-benefit analysis activities, including assessment of climate resilience benefits
- Support activities related to identification and engagement of private sector actors, organization of matchmaking events, development of promotional materials, and documentation of discussions, partnerships, and investments
- Prepare activity reports, communication materials for social media, and periodic articles or newsletters
Qualifications
- Current PhD or Master’s student at the research stage with coursework or dissertation classes completed
- Academic background in Climate Change, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Economics, Water Resources Management, Natural Resources Management and Assessment, Project Planning and Management, or related fields
- Basic experience or strong interest in project design, planning and management, economic analysis, natural resources assessment, teamwork, and multi-stakeholder coordination
- Strong interest in water resources management and climate resilience with willingness to learn and contribute
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Good proficiency in ICT tools and standard computer applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, and Word
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team and provide reliable technical and coordination support
