Job Description

This role is a project-based communications position focused on managing all internal and external communication for Swisscontact’s PropelA Project, which aims to improve youth employability in Tanzania through vocational training and industry-aligned education systems. The officer ensures that project results, stories, and activities are effectively communicated to stakeholders, donors, media, and the public.

It is both a strategic and hands-on role that combines content creation, stakeholder engagement, media management, and knowledge dissemination. The position plays a key part in strengthening project visibility, promoting apprenticeship models, and supporting donor reporting and learning documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the project communications strategy aligned with project objectives
  • Prepare annual communication plans, budgets, and implementation frameworks
  • Create high-quality content including articles, press releases, speeches, social media posts, and presentations
  • Manage social media platforms and digital communication channels (LinkedIn, Instagram, X, etc.)
  • Ensure branding compliance across all communication materials
  • Promote the dual apprenticeship model within vocational training and construction sectors
  • Coordinate communication activities with regional and cross-country project teams
  • Organize stakeholder events, donor visits, and public engagement activities
  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets and ensure consistent media coverage
  • Manage media monitoring systems and maintain communication archives
  • Update website content and maintain digital visibility of project activities
  • Produce success stories, case studies, and learning materials in collaboration with technical teams
  • Support knowledge management systems including databases and documentation repositories
  • Provide editing, proofreading, and design support for donor-facing materials
  • Advise project leadership on communication risks, opportunities, and visibility strategies
  • Ensure integration of gender equality and social inclusion in all communications

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Mass Communication, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in professional communications roles
  • Strong writing, storytelling, and content development skills in English and Kiswahili
  • Experience developing and implementing communication strategies and plans
  • Strong digital media and social media management skills
  • Experience in media relations, stakeholder engagement, and public communications
  • Skills in graphic design, video production, or animation are an added advantage
  • Experience working with international NGOs or donor-funded projects preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Knowledge management and documentation experience (case studies, learning materials)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage diverse stakeholders
