Job Description

Hannah Bennie School (HBS) was established to provide children in Kigamboni with access to high-quality English-medium education close to home. To support a safe, functional, and conducive learning environment, the school maintains high standards across its facilities and infrastructure, ensuring that all building systems operate efficiently and reliably.

To strengthen its maintenance team, HBS is seeking a skilled and dependable MEP Technician (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) to support the operation and maintenance of the school’s facilities. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring that mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems remain safe, functional, and compliant with applicable standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across school facilities
  • Perform routine inspections to ensure building systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably
  • Diagnose and resolve faults affecting electrical, mechanical, and plumbing infrastructure
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, building codes, and workplace safety standards
  • Collaborate with other departments in planning and executing maintenance and improvement projects
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenance activities, and service schedules
  • Carry out preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment lifespan
  • Respond promptly to emergency repair requests and facility-related incidents
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements where necessary
  • Ensure proper use, maintenance, and storage of tools and maintenance equipment
  • Support health, safety, and environmental compliance initiatives within the school

Qualification Required:

  • Diploma from VETA in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Minimum of two years of hands-on experience in MEP installation, maintenance, or facilities management
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals
  • Knowledge of modern diagnostic equipment and maintenance best practices
  • Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality standards
  • Basic computer proficiency for maintenance records, digital work orders, and reporting systems
  • Good problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
