The Assistant Accountant – PPB Direct Financing Support position is responsible for providing financial and accounting support to village-level institutions receiving direct funding under the PPB Project. The role combines accounting responsibilities with field-based community engagement, focusing on strengthening financial management systems, improving compliance, building local capacity, and ensuring proper use of project resources to achieve conservation and development objectives.
Responsibilities
- Support financial management activities at village-level institutions participating in the project
- Guide village personnel in maintaining accurate and complete financial records
- Assist in recording receipts, payments, and financial transactions correctly
- Promote sound financial management and accountability practices within communities
- Conduct regular field visits to review village financial records and documentation
- Verify supporting documents and financial transactions for accuracy and compliance
- Ensure expenditures align with approved work plans and project funding guidelines
- Identify documentation gaps, compliance issues, and areas requiring improvement
- Train and mentor village stakeholders on basic accounting and bookkeeping procedures
- Demonstrate practical financial management and recordkeeping techniques
- Strengthen financial management capacity within community institutions
- Organize and maintain financial records and filing systems
- Review financial and technical reports submitted by participating villages
- Assist in preparing quarterly and periodic financial reports
- Maintain a centralized repository of project financial documents
- Identify irregularities and potential financial risks
- Report financial concerns and compliance issues to the Landscape Accountant
- Support the implementation of corrective actions and financial improvements
Qualification required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of 1 year experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial administration
- Knowledge of bookkeeping principles and accounting practices
- Experience in financial reporting and documentation management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and spreadsheet applications
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word
- Strong organizational and record management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance personnel and community stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
- High level of professional integrity and ethical conduct
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong sense of accountability and attention to detail
- Willingness to undertake regular fieldwork and community engagement activities
