Full Job Description
The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking an IT Assistant (Volunteer) based in Dar es Salaam to support the delivery of efficient and reliable Information Technology (IT) and Telecommunications services. The role focuses on ensuring smooth IT operations that enable staff to effectively deliver humanitarian food assistance. The position supports both technical troubleshooting and end-user support within a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
The IT Assistant will act as a first-line support resource for staff, assisting with hardware, software, and network-related issues. The role also contributes to IT service management processes, including ticket handling, equipment setup, and system support across WFP offices and field locations.
Responsibilities
- Record, classify, and track IT and telecommunications support requests and incidents
- Update service tickets with troubleshooting steps and escalate unresolved issues
- Follow up on incidents to ensure timely resolution and closure
- Provide first-line technical support to staff across IT systems and devices
- Troubleshoot issues related to computers, laptops, printers, Wi-Fi, and Microsoft Office 365 applications
- Assist in installation, configuration, and deployment of IT and telecommunications equipment
- Support conference room technologies including Microsoft Teams and video conferencing systems
- Assist in staff onboarding and offboarding IT setup and equipment allocation
- Prepare IT equipment for deployment to field and regional offices
- Provide support for LAN, Wi-Fi, and VPN connectivity issues
- Offer remote IT support to offices in various regions including Kigoma, Arusha, and Mtwara
- Maintain accurate documentation of technical issues and resolutions
- Assist in IT inventory tracking and equipment management
- Support system upgrades, maintenance, and routine checks
- Perform additional IT-related tasks as assigned by supervisors
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
- Basic understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, and networking concepts
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 administration and troubleshooting
- Experience in IT support, helpdesk, or technical troubleshooting roles (entry-level acceptable)
- Strong customer service and client support orientation
- Good communication skills in English (written and spoken)
- Ability to work in a multicultural and dynamic environment
- Strong teamwork, adaptability, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under supervision while managing multiple support requests
- Interest in humanitarian and development sector IT systems
- Basic knowledge of networking and IT service management principles
