Full Job Description

The National Housing Corporation (NHC) is a public institution mandated to develop and facilitate the provision of quality housing and commercial buildings across Tanzania. Established under Act No. 45 of 1962 and reconstituted under Act No. 2 of 1990, the Corporation operates on commercial principles while continuing to fulfill its mandate of addressing urban housing challenges. In line with its vision of becoming a leading real estate development and management firm in Africa, NHC is seeking to recruit qualified and experienced Tanzanians for the position of Architect II.

The Architect II will be responsible for supporting the planning, design, and implementation of construction and real estate development projects within the Corporation. The officer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that projects meet technical standards, planning regulations, environmental requirements, and budget expectations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creating building and landscape designs together with highly detailed drawings and specifications using both manual methods and specialized computer-aided design applications such as AutoCAD, ArchiCAD, and related software.
  • Liaising with construction professionals regarding the feasibility of proposed construction projects.
  • Working within constraints such as town planning regulations, environmental impact considerations, and project budgets.
  • Collaborating closely with professionals including civil engineers, quantity surveyors, construction managers, and architectural technologists.
  • Facilitating applications for building permits and approvals for new construction projects.
  • Specifying requirements and technical standards for construction projects.
  • Conducting assessments of construction project proposals related to real estate development within the Corporation.
  • Participating in physical inspections of buildings and proposed construction sites within the Corporation or projects where the Corporation has been contracted.
  • Preparing periodic architectural reports concerning the Corporation’s development projects.
  • Participating in the preparation of project implementation and maintenance programmes for infrastructure facilities, utility services, and strategic investments undertaken by the Corporation.
  • Participating in the preparation of periodic reports on ongoing projects and maintenance activities.
  • Performing any other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification and Experience

Applicants must possess:

  • A Bachelor Degree in Architecture, Building Design, Architectural and Building Engineering Technology, Landscape Architecture, Architectural Technology, Architectural Engineering, Interior Design, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the Architects and Quantity Surveyors Registration Board (AQRB) as a Graduate Architect.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant working experience in architecture, building design, construction projects, or related fields.

Salary Scale

The successful candidate will be appointed under Salary Scale TC 4.

  • Must be a Tanzanian citizen aged not above 45 years.
  • Must be willing to work anywhere within the United Republic of Tanzania.
  • Must attach an updated Curriculum Vitae (CV) with reliable contact details, including postal address, email, and telephone numbers.
  • Must submit certified copies of academic certificates, transcripts, Form IV and VI certificates, professional certificates, and a birth certificate.
  • Result slips, testimonials, and partial transcripts will not be accepted.
  • Must provide names and valid contacts of three reputable referees.
  • Applicants with foreign qualifications must ensure verification by NECTA, TCU, or NACTE where applicable.
