Job Opportunity: Shift Quality Control Officer – Dangote Cement

Job Summary
The Shift QC Officer is responsible for analyzing production samples such as Raw Meal, Kiln Feed, Coal, Clinker, Cement, and other raw materials according to the plant’s Effective Quality Control Plan.
Laboratory analyses are primarily performed using XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) in the Robot Lab. If the automated system fails, testing must be conducted using a Bench-top XRF, and in case of XRF system failure, wet chemistry methods (conventional analysis) are used.
The officer must also provide timely analytical feedback to the production department to ensure that all materials at each stage of production remain within the specified quality limits.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Analysis
- Analyze shift samples including Raw Meal, Kiln Feed, Coal, Clinker, and Cement.
- Conduct tests using Robot Lab XRF, Bench-top XRF, or wet chemistry methods when necessary.
- Perform chemical analysis to determine parameters such as:
- LSF (Lime Saturation Factor)
- MA (Modulus of Alumina)
- MS (Modulus of Silica)
- LOI (Loss on Ignition)
- Residue and other quality indicators.
Raw Material and Process Testing
- Carry out full chemistry analysis of Raw Meal and Kiln Feed and communicate results to plant operators.
- Conduct Hot Meal tests for SO₃, Cl, K₂O, Na₂O, and LOI to determine the Degree of Calcination.
- Perform Clinker analysis, including free lime, C₃S, C₂S, C₃A, liquid phase, and litre weight.
- Conduct fine coal tests including moisture content, ash, and sieve analysis.
Cement Quality Testing
- Analyze cement samples for SO₃, Blaine fineness, LOI, and sieve analysis.
- Provide feedback for adjustment of clinker, gypsum, and limestone feeders to maintain product quality.
Additional Laboratory Duties
- Conduct water analysis for the RO plant when required.
- Inspect AGO fuel deliveries, checking density and water content and recording results in the GRN system.
- Perform routine inspection and control of laboratory instruments.
- Prepare standard solutions for chemical analysis.
- Assist with calibration and maintenance of XRF analyzers and laboratory equipment.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain laboratory records and inventory of chemicals and consumables.
- Prepare daily laboratory reports and analytical summaries.
- Monitor laboratory temperature and humidity conditions.
- Maintain the LERI file for laboratory equipment and submit weekly reports.
- Report any quality issues immediately to supervisors.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Chemistry
OR - Chemical and Process Engineering or a related discipline.
Work Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the cement manufacturing industry.
Required Skills and Competencies
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Strong knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Experience operating laboratory testing instruments and analytical equipment.
- Ability to conduct chemical analysis of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished cement products.
- Good communication skills to coordinate with production and CCR operators.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving abilities.
