Job Summary
Ifakara Health Institute seeks a qualified Research Officer Intern to support the Malaria Atlas Project (MAP) Node, an African-based regional office delivering subnational malaria risk mapping and advanced modelling support to endemic countries. The intern will contribute to analytical work, technical support to National Malaria Programs (NMPs), and research dissemination.
Key Responsibilities
• Support responses to technical inquiries from malaria control programs and stakeholders across Africa
• Assist in data gathering, extraction, management, and visualization
• Contribute to analytical and programming tasks
• Develop dashboards and support modelling activities
• Design and implement small, time-bound analytical projects
• Participate in conferences and technical meetings
• Ensure compliance with institutional policies and safety procedures
• Identify and report workplace hazards and incidents
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related quantitative field
• Knowledge of public health, epidemiology, vector-borne diseases, or ecology is an advantage
Desired Skills
• Proficiency in R, Python, QGIS or related analytical tools
• Interest in machine learning and advanced modelling
• Strong attention to detail and time management skills
• Ability to develop data visualization tools and dashboards

Language Requirements
• Proficiency in English and Swahili
• French or Portuguese is an added advantage
