MSF is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Pharmacy Supervisor to support its medical operations in Tanzania.

Position Details

Job Purpose:

The Pharmacy Supervisor will ensure the proper functioning of pharmacy operations and supervise the pharmaceutical supply chain in line with MSF standards, protocols, and procedures. The objective is to guarantee efficient pharmacy management and ensure the continuous availability of medicines and medical supplies required for patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Pharmacy Operations and Stock Management

  • Ensure proper storage, stock management, and supply processes in accordance with MSF protocols and national regulations.
  • Monitor hygiene, pest control, and security procedures within pharmacy storage facilities.
  • Maintain appropriate storage conditions including temperature, humidity, and light exposure to preserve drug quality.
  • Coordinate delivery, reception, and documentation of both international and local medical orders.
  • Monitor stock levels, expiry dates, and potential shortages to maintain adequate safety stock.

Supply Chain and Distribution

  • Supervise ordering of medicines and medical supplies to ensure efficient consumption within budget limits.
  • Ensure continuous supply of medicines to patients according to medical prescriptions.
  • Monitor distribution of medicines to other MSF-supported pharmacies while ensuring cold chain compliance where necessary.
  • Analyse supply requests from supported facilities to prevent stock shortages or expired medicines.

Data Management and Reporting

  • Record stock movements using MSF systems such as Isystock.
  • Monitor drug consumption trends and report unusual patterns.
  • Forecast future pharmaceutical needs to support effective budgeting and procurement.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting on pharmacy activities.

Supervision and Capacity Building

  • Supervise pharmaceutical and nursing staff working in pharmacy-related activities.
  • Support HR processes including staff planning, training, recruitment, and performance evaluation.
  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to pharmacy staff in peripheral health facilities.
  • Train nursing staff on drug dispensing practices and possible side effects.

Context-Specific Responsibilities

  • Support pharmacy management practices at peripheral health facilities.
  • Ensure continuous availability of essential medicines and medical supplies.
  • Conduct regular stock reviews to prevent stock-outs, expiries, or overstocking.
  • Monitor good storage practices and cold chain management.
  • Strengthen pharmacy data reporting and consumption analysis.
  • Support pharmacovigilance activities and adverse drug reaction reporting.
  • Identify pharmacy service gaps affecting maternal and neonatal healthcare and recommend improvements.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Diploma in Pharmacy (essential).

Experience

  • At least one year of professional experience working as a pharmacist or in pharmacy management.

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in English and Swahili is essential.

Technical Skills

  • Basic computer literacy including Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet use.
