Cashbook Accountant at Serena Hotels

Serena Hotels is seeking a Cashbook Accountant to oversee cash flow operations, bank transactions, and financial records across its properties in Tanzania. The role is focused on maintaining accurate financial records, strengthening cash controls, and ensuring that banking and ledger transactions are properly recorded and reconciled.

The successful candidate will support the Finance Manager and management by preparing cash flow reports, conducting bank reconciliations, verifying financial documentation, and ensuring compliance with established internal financial controls. Experience in the hospitality industry and familiarity with accounting systems will be an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Record daily cash, cheque, and electronic banking transactions in the general ledger and finance software.

  

• Conduct daily and monthly bank reconciliations.

• Identify and resolve discrepancies and unrecorded banking transactions.

  

• Monitor daily liquid cash balances.

• Manage petty cash disbursements.

  

• Conduct periodic cash audits across departments.

• Verify payment vouchers, vendor invoices, and supporting financial documents before funds are disbursed.

  

• Prepare cash flow schedules and banking reports.

• Compile transaction summaries for the Finance Manager and management audits.

• Maintain accurate cashbook and ledger records.

• Ensure compliance with financial internal controls and established accounting procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.

• Partial or full professional accounting qualifications such as CPA or ACCA.

• 2–3 years of progressive experience in accounting, cashbook management, or general ledger operations.

• Hospitality industry experience is preferred.

• Proficiency in accounting software such as SunSystems, Opera, or Sage.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

• High level of numerical accuracy and attention to detail.

• Strong integrity and adherence to financial controls.

• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
