Workshop Artisan at Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL PLC)

Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL PLC), part of AB InBev, is inviting qualified candidates to apply for the position of Workshop Artisan in Dar es Salaam. This opportunity is ideal for skilled mechanical technicians who are passionate about industrial maintenance, equipment reliability, and manufacturing excellence.

The successful candidate will be responsible for executing preventive and corrective mechanical maintenance, fabrication, equipment installation, and workshop operations to ensure maximum plant availability, operational efficiency, and product quality across Brewing, Packaging, and Utilities operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective mechanical maintenance activities.

  • Diagnose mechanical faults and implement effective corrective actions.

  • Dismantle, inspect, repair, refurbish, assemble, and commission mechanical equipment.

  • Maintain rotating and static equipment including pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, conveyors, and valves.

  • Replace and align shafts, bearings, couplings, pulleys, and belts.

  • Support equipment installation, leveling, alignment, and commissioning.

  • Carry out machining, fitting, fabrication, welding, grinding, drilling, and cutting activities.

  • Operate workshop machinery and measuring instruments safely and efficiently.

  • Conduct routine inspections to identify wear, vibration, leaks, and other equipment defects.

  • Participate in root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and maintenance improvement initiatives.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspection reports, and technical documentation.

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and equipment manuals.

  • Comply with occupational health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.

  • Apply permit-to-work, lock-out/tag-out, PPE, and 5S workplace practices.

  • Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Brewing, Packaging, and Utilities teams.

  • Support continuous improvement projects that enhance equipment reliability and reduce maintenance costs.

Qualifications Required

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

  • Trade certification in Mechanical Fitting, Fitter & Turner, Machining, Welding, or Fabrication is an added advantage.

  • Occupational Health and Safety training or certification is desirable.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in industrial mechanical maintenance or workshop operations.

  • Experience in manufacturing, FMCG, brewing, packaging, utilities, mining, or process industries is an advantage.

  • Practical skills in mechanical fitting, alignment, fabrication, welding, machining, and rotating equipment maintenance.

  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and P&IDs.

  • Understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.

  • Basic computer literacy and familiarity with maintenance reporting systems.

  • Strong problem-solving, teamwork, communication, planning, and safety awareness.
