Agronomy Technician Trainees – 3 Positions at JTI

JTI is inviting applications for three Agronomy Technician Trainee positions in Tabora as part of a one-year trainee programme. This internship opportunity is suitable for graduates with a background in Agriculture, Agricultural Extension Services, or a related field who are interested in gaining practical experience working directly with farmers.

The trainees will provide agricultural extension support to tobacco growers, monitor crop performance, collect field data, and promote recommended farming practices. The role also provides practical exposure to regenerative agriculture, agroforestry, environmental sustainability, and initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods and well-being of farming communities.

Responsibilities

• Monitor crop performance and farmers’ compliance with recommended agronomic practices.

  

• Identify agricultural challenges in the field and provide timely technical support or escalate issues when necessary.

• Implement approved agroforestry, barn, and furnace initiatives.

  

• Collect accurate agricultural and farmer data and upload it into relevant systems.

• Prepare weekly and monthly reports covering assigned farmers.

  

• Establish the required grower base within the allocated area.

• Promote energy-efficient technologies and practices that reduce environmental impact.

  

• Support initiatives aimed at eliminating child labour and improving the well-being of growers and communities.

• Follow Information Management System (IMS) standards and internal controls.

• Monitor compliance with crop calendar requirements.

• Ensure crop production activities are implemented on schedule.

• Promote regenerative agriculture practices that improve soil health, water-use efficiency, biodiversity, and climate resilience.

Qualifications Required

• University degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Extension Services, or a related field.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

• Good written and spoken English.

• Good written and spoken Swahili.

• Strong communication and presentation skills.

• Ability to ride a motorcycle.

• Valid motorcycle driving licence.

• Practical field experience or internship experience in the tobacco industry.
