Job Description

Perseus Mining Limited is seeking an experienced Health and Safety Superintendent to support the operational readiness and mine operations of the Nyanzaga gold mine in Tanzania. The role is responsible for implementing and maintaining the established Health and Safety Management System and ensuring that employees, contractors, and operational teams follow company safety standards, procedures, and Tanzanian regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate will provide senior operational safety leadership across the mine, with particular responsibility for contractor safety performance, fatality-risk management, safety culture programmes, incident investigations, and health and safety reporting. This is a senior mining-site position suited to an experienced OHS professional with substantial mine-site experience and previous supervisory or superintendent-level responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Health and Safety performance across Perseus departments and contractors.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable Tanzanian regulatory requirements and company-specific safety standards.

  • Review and approve contractor Health and Safety Management Plans.

  • Review contractor safety procedures and processes to ensure alignment with the project’s overall safety objectives.

  • Manage the fatality risk management programme.

  • Implement and support safety culture programmes, including SHED (Safety Home Every Day).

  • Lead investigations into significant health and safety incidents.

  • Ensure thorough root-cause analysis of significant safety events.

  • Ensure corrective actions from incident investigations are properly documented and communicated.

  • Monitor contractor and Perseus health and safety performance.

  • Prepare regular Health and Safety performance updates for Management and relevant stakeholders.

  • Provide operational oversight of health and safety processes supporting mine readiness and ongoing mine operations.

  • Promote proactive adherence to safe working practices across employees and contractors.

  • Support continuous improvement of health and safety systems and practices.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Management.

  • At least 10 years of experience in mine-site Occupational Health and Safety management roles.

  • At least 5 years of experience in a senior supervisory or superintendent position.

  • Strong experience managing Health and Safety systems within mining operations.

  • Experience overseeing contractor Health and Safety performance.

  • Experience with incident investigation and root-cause analysis.

  • Strong understanding of mining safety standards, procedures, and regulatory compliance.

  • Ability to communicate Health and Safety performance effectively to management and stakeholders.
