Job Description

Secondary Education for Girl's Advancement (SEGA) is seeking a qualified and experienced Kiswahili and Literature in English Teacher to join SEGA Girls Secondary School in Morogoro. The successful candidate will provide high-quality and participatory education while helping students build strong academic knowledge, practical skills, confidence, and independence.

The position is suitable for an experienced teacher with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Kiswahili and Literature in English as teaching subjects. In addition to classroom teaching, the teacher will support students' academic, social, and career development and participate in extracurricular activities such as essay competitions, subject clubs, and debates.

About the Role

The teacher will develop and deliver engaging lessons in accordance with the Tanzanian national curriculum and SEGA’s vision and values. The role requires the use of different teaching approaches and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles and encourage active student participation.

The successful candidate will also provide additional support to students who are struggling academically, prepare advanced materials for fast learners, monitor student progress, and contribute to creating a safe and supportive environment for girls.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing creative, participatory, and integrated learning opportunities in Kiswahili and Literature in English.

  • Aligning teaching activities with the Tanzanian national curriculum and SEGA’s vision and values.

  • Preparing schemes of work and lesson plans.

  • Developing instructional materials suitable for different learning styles.

  • Using resources such as charts, objects, songs, and multimedia to support learning.

  • Using IT, videos, small-group discussions, and hands-on activities to make lessons engaging.

  • Teaching assigned classes according to the timetable.

  • Maintaining punctual attendance.

  • Conducting regular student assessments against expected competencies.

  • Preparing, administering, and marking tests and examinations.

  • Providing additional academic support to struggling students through extra tuition or counselling.

  • Providing advanced learning materials for fast learners.

  • Supporting students in setting personalised academic, social, and career goals.

  • Helping students develop action plans to achieve their goals.

  • Managing student behaviour effectively.

  • Creating a safe and supportive learning environment for vulnerable girls.

  • Monitoring student progress and informing the Headmistress about significant issues.

  • Participating in extracurricular activities such as essay competitions, subject clubs, and debates.

  • Taking initiative in developing and organising student activities.

  • Supporting students in developing practical skills that contribute to self-reliance after graduation.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

  • Kiswahili and Literature in English as teaching subjects.

  • A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience.

  • Excellent written and spoken Swahili.

  • Excellent written and spoken English.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Proficiency in email communication.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

  • Willingness to live and work in Morogoro.

  • Ability to commute to the school daily.

  • Availability to start immediately.

  • Being under 35 years of age is preferred.
