Brewing Lab Specialist
AB InBev Africa is seeking a qualified and experienced professional for the position of Brewing Lab Specialist in Mbeya. The role is responsible for coordinating brewing quality control activities and ensuring that laboratory analysis is conducted according to AB InBev standards and specifications.
The successful candidate will oversee laboratory quality systems, verify analytical results and data integrity, maintain laboratory equipment, and ensure production teams comply with required quality standards. The position also involves leading, coaching, and developing laboratory team members while maintaining strong safety, housekeeping, and operational controls.
Responsibilities

Participate in the development and improvement of quality systems for the brewery.

Provide expert advice and recommendations on laboratory quality requirements.

Implement new quality systems and changes to existing systems.

Ensure laboratory teams have the necessary competencies to operate quality systems effectively.

Maintain the functional and data integrity of quality systems.

Identify and resolve quality-system problems.

Ensure laboratory quality objectives are incorporated into team and individual performance goals.

Audit compliance with quality systems across laboratory and production teams.

Exercise budgetary control over laboratory assets and brewing and utilities plant requirements.

Liaise with the Central Office on quality-related matters.

Participate in regional and divisional multidisciplinary teams.

Verify that laboratory team members conduct required quality checks and analyses correctly.

Ensure laboratory results and information are accurately recorded in the appropriate systems.

Verify the effectiveness of quality systems and the accuracy of laboratory data.

Ensure laboratory equipment operates optimally and identify problems or improvement opportunities.

Implement changes to analytical standards and provide additional training where necessary.

Ensure standards are adapted to regional requirements where applicable.

Engage with relevant technical teams to ensure regional quality requirements are properly understood.

Lead the laboratory team and promote ownership, empowerment, teamwork, and accountability.

Ensure laboratory staff follow operational, quality, and process standards.

Monitor adherence to work instructions, calibration schedules, and performance targets.

Mentor, support, and coach laboratory team members.

Conduct training needs analysis, one-on-one sessions, and performance reviews.

Initiate corrective actions where training or performance gaps are identified.

Lead team goal-setting and performance management activities.

Review team performance and progress against established goals.

Exercise budgetary control over laboratory operations.

Ensure appropriate safety and housekeeping procedures are followed.

Ensure compliance with applicable legal and occupational safety requirements.

Conduct regular safety and housekeeping checks and audits.

Correct unsafe work practices and ensure appropriate safety standards are maintained.
Qualifications and Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Microbiology or an equivalent qualification.

2–3 years of experience in laboratory, brewing, or packaging operations.

3–6 months of relevant on-the-job training.

Strong analytical expertise.

Good numerical skills, including budgeting and statistical analysis.
