Responsibilities

  • Co-develop and implement Pan-African strategic communications aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Support donor retention, partnership development, and fundraising through effective communications.
  • Develop communication objectives, budgets, and implementation plans.
  • Review, edit, and strengthen fundraising and corporate communication materials.
  • Lead storytelling and thought leadership campaigns that position Ubongo as a leader in children’s education.
  • Serve as an alternative spokesperson and media liaison when required.
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, media outlets, partners, and influencers.
  • Develop press releases, articles, FAQs, speeches, briefing notes, and corporate presentations.
  • Manage content calendars for strategic communications and thought leadership.
  • Coordinate the production of reports, case studies, newsletters, blogs, white papers, and impact updates.
  • Identify and write compelling stories that highlight program impact and community voices.
  • Support digital marketing, website content, and social media visibility.
  • Maintain Ubongo’s blog and communication platforms.
  • Monitor and improve communication strategies using performance insights.
  • Coordinate donor reporting calendars and assist with donor reports and proposals.
  • Create communication products including infographics, videos, and impact stories.
  • Organize donor visits, conferences, and partnership engagement activities.
  • Maintain donor records and fundraising documentation.
  • Prepare media kits, speeches, talking points, and crisis communication materials.
  • Train staff and spokespeople on brand messaging and media engagement.
  • Support internal communications and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in B2B and strategic communications.
  • Experience working in nonprofit, international development, advocacy, or education sectors.
  • Proven success supporting fundraising and partnership communications.
  • Experience managing websites, social media platforms, CRMs, and media relations.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
  • French language skills are an added advantage.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
  • Strong public speaking and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strategic planning and project management experience.
  • Knowledge of donor-funded environments and fundraising communications.
  • Graphic design or multimedia skills are an added advantage.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines while working collaboratively.
  • High integrity, transparency, flexibility, and teamwork skills.
