The successful candidate will serve as a strategic analytics partner to different business units, helping the Bank turn data into practical insights that support business performance and decision-making.

The position combines business intelligence, data analytics, predictive modelling, technical coordination, and team leadership. The Senior Manager will also lead the Strategy Analytics team and work closely with business, technology, risk, credit, audit, and compliance teams to ensure analytics solutions deliver measurable value.

Responsibilities

• Act as the main analytics contact for business units and work with Business Heads to understand objectives and prioritize analytics requirements.
• Consolidate reporting and analytics demands while managing delivery timelines, quality standards, expectations, and competing priorities.
• Integrate analytics into performance reviews, business planning, product launches, and campaign evaluations.
• Translate business questions into clear technical requirements covering data sources, definitions, granularity, refresh frequency, and acceptance criteria.
• Coordinate analytics requirements with data engineering, data platform, and architecture teams.
• Act as the business owner and acceptance authority for data products and analytical solutions.
• Support improvements in data processing, reporting speed, automation, and self-service reporting.
• Contribute business requirements to decisions involving data architecture, analytics tools, and technology platforms.
• Maintain consistent data definitions and business logic across the Bank.
• Define requirements for real-time monitoring dashboards and business performance reporting.
• Monitor transaction spikes and declines, liquidity and float shortages, fraud indicators, and other unusual business activities.
• Develop and maintain management dashboards and self-service reporting solutions.
• Prepare analytics inputs for Management, Board, and regulatory reports.
• Support accurate and timely business and financial reporting.
• Track strategic initiatives and projects using business analytics.
• Support annual operating plans and budgets through data-driven analysis.
• Produce performance scorecards and rankings across segments, products, channels, regions, branches, and relationship teams.
• Identify performance deviations and highlight initiatives that are not achieving their intended objectives.
• Conduct detailed analyses to explain business trends and performance changes.
• Provide data-driven recommendations for improving strategies and business initiatives.
• Support business cases and post-implementation reviews.
• Lead the development of predictive and optimization models for deposits and liquidity forecasting, transaction volumes, channel capacity, pricing, customer churn, cross-selling, customer lifetime value, next-best-action modelling, credit risk, collections, fraud, and anomaly detection.
• Work with technology teams on model deployment, hosting, and performance monitoring.
• Partner with Risk and Credit teams to support model governance, validation, and documentation.
• Lead the Strategy Analytics team, including Data Analysts and Data Scientists.
• Set team priorities, performance expectations, and professional standards.
• Develop, coach, recruit, and retain analytics professionals.
• Promote data-driven decision-making across the Bank.
• Strengthen analytical capabilities within business units.
• Serve as the business data steward for the analytics function.
• Define business data standards, quality rules, and reconciliation requirements.
• Ensure data quality and integrity for financial and management reporting.
• Support compliance with Bank of Tanzania regulations and relevant data protection requirements.
• Develop standard operating procedures and data policies.
• Coordinate with Internal Audit and Controls teams during compliance testing.
• Ensure appropriate data access controls, privacy, confidentiality, and documentation are maintained.

Qualifications Required

• Strong SQL skills.
• Hands-on experience using Python and/or R.
• Proficiency in business intelligence and data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or Superset.
• Working knowledge of data pipeline and workflow tools such as Airflow, dbt, or equivalent ETL frameworks.
• Understanding of data warehousing and data modelling.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Familiarity with machine learning workflows, including feature engineering, model deployment, and monitoring.
• Knowledge of core banking, card, and digital-channel data structures is an added advantage.
• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or another relevant quantitative field.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in data analytics or business intelligence.
• At least 2–3 years of experience in team leadership.
• Experience in banking, financial services, payments, or another transaction-intensive environment.
• Experience working within a matrix structure and delivering results through technology or engineering teams that are not directly managed.
• Proven experience developing dashboards, analytical products, and predictive models that have been implemented and actively used.
• Experience working with regulators, auditors, and financial-services compliance requirements.
