Absa Bank Tanzania is inviting applications for the position of Relationship Manager Financial Institutions & Non-Banking Financial Institutions in Dar es Salaam. The successful candidate will support the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) and Global Corporates business by developing and managing client relationships and identifying new business opportunities in Tanzania.

The role will focus on acquiring new customers, strengthening existing relationships, identifying opportunities to increase business with international financial institution clients, and coordinating with Absa’s wider African and global banking network. The successful candidate will work with corporate bankers, product teams, relationship directors, and sector heads to deliver suitable financial solutions while maintaining appropriate risk and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strong understanding of global FIG client behaviour, requirements, and business needs.
  • Coordinate country clients and proactively develop suitable client solutions.
  • Support the acquisition of new country clients.
  • Provide support to Global, Regional, and Local Bankers.
  • Develop African relationships for Global Bankers and coordinate relationship opportunities originating from Tanzania.
  • Manage client relationships and identify opportunities to increase revenue and share of wallet.
  • Develop account plans and analyze existing products, revenues, and client relationships.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of in-country clients to identify business growth opportunities.
  • Understand client requirements and support the development of innovative financial solutions.
  • Assist in preparing and delivering pitches and supporting opportunities through successful closure.
  • Track client deep dives and follow up on agreed action points after client visits.
  • Ensure issues and pipeline opportunities are followed through to completion.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders across Absa and the wider Absa Group network.
  • Maintain a sound understanding of credit policies and assist with resolving client-related credit matters.
  • Support the credit process when new or increased limits are required.
  • Maintain close communication with FIG heads and relevant stakeholders.
  • Support pipeline development and closure.
  • Contribute to achieving the Country FIG budget.
  • Support the client interface with relevant business teams.
  • Assist with client annual business reviews.
  • Act as a crisis coordinator and allocate responsibilities to crisis teams when major issues arise within the business unit.
  • Regularly review business unit risk and compliance profiles and provide appropriate input on required changes.
  • Understand end-to-end business processes, including associated risks and controls.
  • Follow Absa policies, procedures, and governance requirements.
  • Apply sound judgment and responsible risk management practices.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and understand their potential impact on the business.
  • Complete all mandatory training within the required deadlines.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • University degree in Business, Economics, Commerce, or an equivalent field.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Business, Commerce, or Management Studies.
  • 3–5 years of experience in Corporate Banking.
  • Experience working with Financial Institution Groups.
  • At least 2 years of successful and relevant relationship management experience.
  • Background in commercial banking products, preferably with exposure to African business.
  • Knowledge of debt and investment banking products.
  • Knowledge of Non-Bank Financial Institutions (NBFIs) and their regulatory environment.
  • Knowledge of Corporate Banking in Tanzania.
  • Experience working with multinationals, financial institutions, NBFIs, and major NGOs in Tanzania.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of Corporate Banking experience in emerging markets.
  • Proven relationship management track record in the corporate banking sector.
  • Established relationships within the corporate banking field in emerging markets.
  • Strong solution-driven approach.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong relationship management skills and credibility when dealing with senior clients.
