NBC Tanzania is inviting applications from qualified and experienced professionals for the position of Relationship Manager – Fisheries in Dar es Salaam. The role focuses on expanding the Bank’s fisheries business by attracting new clients, developing suitable financing solutions, assessing credit applications, and maintaining a strong quality loan portfolio.
The successful candidate will work closely with fisheries farmers, cooperatives, agribusiness enterprises, and other value-chain stakeholders. This position requires strong knowledge of fisheries business, credit assessment, relationship management, and the ability to work extensively in field and rural locations. What to Expect from the Relationship Manager – Fisheries Role
The Relationship Manager – Fisheries will be responsible for growing the Bank’s fisheries customer base while ensuring that lending decisions meet required credit and risk standards. The role combines business development, client relationship management, financial assessment, credit appraisal, portfolio monitoring, and sector advisory support.
Responsibilities include:
- Identify, acquire, and onboard fisheries farmers, cooperatives, and agribusiness enterprises as new clients.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and industry partners.
- Advise clients on appropriate financing options based on their business needs.
- Keep up to date with fisheries sector trends, risks, financing needs, and developments across the value chain.
- Assess loan applications from fisheries farmers, cooperatives, and agribusiness enterprises.
- Evaluate business viability, cash flow, repayment capacity, collateral, and sector-specific risks.
- Structure financing solutions according to fisheries production cycles, business models, and cash flow patterns.
- Recommend suitable products such as working capital loans, asset finance, and insurance-backed credit facilities.
- Ensure approved loans are disbursed accurately and within agreed timelines.
- Visit and monitor financed farms, projects, and businesses to assess performance and repayment capacity.
- Identify early signs of financial difficulties, operational problems, or declining credit quality.
- Recommend appropriate actions to address emerging credit and business risks.
- Maintain a healthy loan portfolio through timely repayment follow-up and effective portfolio management.
- Ensure all lending activities comply with credit policies, internal procedures, regulatory requirements, and relevant fisheries standards.
- Promote fisheries insurance, risk-sharing mechanisms, and other tools that help manage business and lending risks.
- Educate clients on financial literacy, record keeping, responsible borrowing, and sound business practices.
- Provide guidance on fisheries management and sustainable business operations.
- Connect clients with technical service providers, input suppliers, markets, and other relevant value-chain partners.
- Prepare regular reports on the performance of the fisheries loan portfolio.
- Document sector opportunities, emerging risks, challenges, and lessons learned.
- Maintain accurate client, credit, and portfolio records.
- Participate in Credit Risk Committee meetings, business reviews, delinquency and collections meetings, and other meetings assigned by management.
- Provide timely reports on portfolio performance, business development activities, credit quality, and fisheries sector developments.
Qualifications Required
Applicants for the Relationship Manager – Fisheries position should meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Aquaculture, Animal Science, Agribusiness, or another relevant field.
- Sound knowledge of fisheries business value chains and related financing requirements.
- At least 2 years of experience in agribusiness financing, preferably with exposure to fisheries clients.
- Practical field experience conducting farm visits, fisheries project assessments, client interviews, and capacity assessments.
- Strong analytical, financial assessment, and credit appraisal skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and relationship management abilities.
- Good understanding of fisheries sector dynamics, risks, and business opportunities.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively to rural and field locations.
- Strong customer service and service delivery skills.
- Digital familiarity and ability to use relevant digital tools.
- Effective communication skills.
- Experience working in a similar environment.
- Ability to adapt to changing business requirements.
