Specialist: Big Data and AI Project at Vodacom Tanzania Plc

Vodacom Tanzania Plc is seeking a Specialist: Big Data and AI Project to support the development of artificial intelligence systems, implementation of big data projects, and delivery of data science initiatives that generate actionable insights for business objectives. The role will contribute to the use of advanced data and AI capabilities to support business performance and innovation.

The successful candidate will work with complex datasets, support data extraction and lakehouse development, implement machine learning models, and manage big data and AI initiatives from planning through execution. The position will also contribute to advancing Machine Learning capabilities across Vodafone globally.

Responsibilities include:

• Identify, analyze, and interpret trends and patterns in complex datasets.
• Support the extraction of data through ETL processes from multiple sources.
• Contribute to building domain-oriented data lakehouses.
• Manage end-to-end go-to-market execution of big data, AI, and special project initiatives.
• Implement machine learning models for different areas of the business using MLOps.
• Communicate analytics and machine learning model use cases and results to business users.
• Support data science initiatives that generate actionable insights for business decision-making.

Qualifications and requirements:

• Degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or another related field.
• At least 2 years of experience in a similar Big Data or Data Science role.
• Project knowledge and experience is an added advantage.
• Knowledge of customer-driven marketing techniques and processes.
• Proficiency in Python and the associated Data Science ecosystem.
• Strong knowledge of Machine Learning and experiment design.
• Expertise in data manipulation using structured data tools such as SQL.
• Experience with unstructured data tools and platforms such as Hadoop and Spark.
• Strong data management skills.
• Excellent analytical and causal reasoning skills.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to anticipate customer, competitor, and market dynamics.
• Ability to proactively propose commercial actions based on data and market insights.
