Big Data and AI Project Specialist at Vodacom Tanzania Plc

Vodacom Tanzania Plc is seeking a Big Data and AI Project Specialist to support the development and implementation of artificial intelligence systems that drive product monetization, productivity, and customer service excellence. The role will focus on big data projects, data science initiatives, machine learning applications, and the delivery of actionable insights to support business growth.

The successful candidate will work with complex datasets, develop and implement machine learning solutions, support data extraction and lakehouse development, and manage the delivery of big data and AI initiatives. The role also provides an opportunity to contribute to the wider Vodafone AI community and advance machine learning capabilities across the organization.

Responsibilities include:

• Identify, analyze, and interpret trends and patterns within complex datasets.
• Support data extraction and ETL processes from multiple sources.
• Contribute to the development of domain-oriented data lakehouses.
• Manage end-to-end go-to-market execution of big data, AI, and special project initiatives.
• Implement machine learning models for different areas of the business using MLOps practices.
• Communicate analytics and machine learning use cases and results to business users.
• Support the delivery of data science initiatives that generate actionable business insights.
• Contribute to AI and machine learning initiatives aimed at improving business performance and customer service.

Qualifications and requirements:

• At least 2 years of experience in a similar big data or data science role.
• Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or another related quantitative field.
• Knowledge of customer-driven marketing techniques and processes.
• Proficiency in Python and the associated data science ecosystem.
• Knowledge of machine learning and experimental design.
• Strong data manipulation skills using structured data tools such as SQL.
• Experience with unstructured data tools and platforms such as Hadoop and Spark.
• Project knowledge and practical project experience.
• Excellent analytical and causal reasoning skills.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Strong data management skills.
• Ability to anticipate customer, competitor, and market dynamics.
• Ability to proactively propose commercial actions based on data and market insights.
