Electrical Technician at ALAF Limited Tanzania

ALAF Limited Tanzania is seeking a qualified Electrical Technician to support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems, machinery and equipment at its manufacturing plant in Dar es Salaam. The position plays an important role in maintaining safe, reliable and efficient plant operations while helping to minimise equipment downtime.

The successful candidate will carry out preventive and corrective electrical maintenance, respond to equipment breakdowns and assist with the installation and commissioning of electrical equipment. The role requires practical technical skills, attention to safety and the ability to work effectively with production and maintenance teams.

Responsibilities include:

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, machinery and equipment across the plant.
• Carry out planned preventive maintenance on electrical equipment to minimise unplanned downtime.
• Diagnose electrical faults affecting motors, drives, control panels, switchgear and instrumentation.
• Perform corrective repairs on electrical equipment and systems.
• Assist with the installation, testing and commissioning of new electrical equipment and system upgrades.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, job cards and spare parts usage reports.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and support the production team in restoring equipment availability.
• Follow all plant health, safety and environmental procedures.
• Observe safe electrical maintenance practices and applicable plant safety requirements.

Qualifications required:

• Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Practical experience in electrical maintenance within a manufacturing or heavy industrial plant.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams and equipment manuals.
• Hands-on competence in electrical fault finding, wiring, panel work and testing of electrical installations.
• Basic working knowledge of motors, variable frequency drives, control circuits and industrial instrumentation.
• Good understanding of workplace electrical safety standards and safe maintenance practices.
• Ability to work shifts and respond to equipment breakdowns.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a maintenance team.
