Electrical Engineer at ALAF Limited Tanzania

ALAF Limited Tanzania is seeking a qualified Electrical Engineer to support the reliable, safe and efficient operation of electrical systems, machinery and equipment at its manufacturing plant in Dar es Salaam. The position focuses on electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and continuous improvement of plant operations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting electrical equipment reliability, addressing recurring faults and coordinating maintenance activities. The role also requires effective collaboration with contractors and equipment suppliers while ensuring that all electrical work meets required safety, environmental and statutory standards.

Responsibilities include:

• Ensure the reliable, safe and efficient operation of plant electrical systems, machinery and equipment.
• Plan and supervise preventive and predictive electrical maintenance programmes to minimise unplanned downtime.
• Troubleshoot and resolve faults affecting electrical control systems, drives, motors, switchgear and instrumentation.
• Interpret electrical drawings and schematics to diagnose faults and specify repairs or modifications.
• Lead root-cause analysis of recurring electrical breakdowns and implement lasting engineering solutions.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on plant operations, energy efficiency and equipment reliability.
• Manage electrical spare parts planning and coordinate with contractors and equipment suppliers.
• Ensure all electrical work complies with plant safety, environmental and statutory requirements.

Qualifications required:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Relevant experience in electrical maintenance or plant engineering within a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
• Sound knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance systems and electrical fault diagnosis.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and equipment manuals.
• Working knowledge of PLCs, variable frequency drives, motors, switchgear and industrial instrumentation.
• Registration with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) is an added advantage.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication skills.
• Firm commitment to plant safety standards.
