Data Scientist at Kenya Airways PLC

Kenya Airways PLC is seeking a skilled and analytical Data Scientist to join its Data, Analytics & AI department. Reporting to the Data Manager – Data Science & Analytics, the successful candidate will help the business unlock the value of data through advanced statistical analysis, data mining, machine learning, and data visualization techniques.

The role will focus on developing analytical models, exploring complex datasets, generating actionable insights, and providing forward-looking recommendations that support strategic business decisions. The position is suitable for professionals with strong quantitative skills and practical experience in data science, statistics, machine learning, and modern data platforms.

Responsibilities include:

• Build econometric and statistical models for projections, classification, clustering, pattern analysis, sampling, simulations, and other business problems.
• Support the development of advanced scientific and technical capabilities within the Data, Analytics & AI department.
• Provide forward-thinking recommendations based on a strong understanding of business problems, data assets, strategic initiatives, and value-based programs.
• Perform ad-hoc data mining and data exploration on large datasets related to business strategies.
• Generate actionable insights using predictive statistical models, segmentation analysis, customer profiling, survey design, data mining, and other advanced statistical techniques.
• Collaborate with other data scientists to communicate challenges, findings, and insights to relevant stakeholders.
• Promote continuous improvement within the team to enhance efficiency, service delivery, and the quality of analytical outputs.
• Maintain full adherence to company policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
• Participate in project execution and ensure assigned projects are properly understood and completed within agreed timelines and service specifications.
• Ensure identified audit issues are closed within the quarter of identification or within the agreed timeframe, whichever is shorter.
• Maintain strong stakeholder relationships and communication to support customer satisfaction and address concerns effectively.
• Maintain updated competency assessments and actively implement personal development plans.

Qualifications required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Economics, or another related quantitative field. Equivalent relevant work experience may also be considered.
• Certification in Big Data, Data Science, or Generative AI from a recognized institution.
• At least three years of experience in business analysis, informatics, or business outcomes research within a fast-paced and complex business environment.
• Practical experience deploying Generative AI and Agentic AI use cases is an added advantage.
• Experience with probability and statistics, time-series analysis, or econometrics.
• Experience applying machine learning techniques such as linear regression, decision trees, and related methods.
• In-depth knowledge and practical experience using Python.
• Experience with cloud-based data science platforms such as AWS SageMaker.
• Strong knowledge of big data platforms.
• Ability to think creatively and demonstrate a high level of drive and self-motivation.
• Strong strategic thinking and the ability to analyze complex issues, develop appropriate action plans, and deliver results.
• Ability to synthesize and analyze diverse datasets and information and develop and recommend effective strategies.
