About the Role

The successful candidate will develop and maintain software in accordance with Vodacom’s software development lifecycle and standards. The position will also involve managing applications and system configurations, resolving incidents, supporting business continuity and disaster recovery, and ensuring the capacity, backup, and restoration of systems under their responsibility.

The role will work closely with backend systems teams and participate in projects involving VAS applications, IT, billing, and wider Vodacom technology initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software in line with Vodacom software development lifecycle and standards.
• Oversee systems and application configurations and ensure their security in accordance with Vodacom standards, policies, procedures, and industry best practices.
• Manage system problems, incidents, and service requests in accordance with agreed SLAs.
• Support Business Continuity Planning and Disaster Recovery Planning for systems under responsibility.
• Oversee system capacity management to support optimal service delivery.
• Manage backup and restore processes.
• Collaborate with backend systems teams to ensure proper implementation and integration of solutions.
• Participate in projects related to VAS applications, IT, billing, and Vodacom technology initiatives.
• Support software development, integration, testing, deployment, and troubleshooting activities.
• Contribute to the identification and resolution of technical issues.
• Support continuous improvement of systems, applications, and integration processes.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or an equivalent qualification.
• At least 2 years of experience with programming languages such as Visual Basic, C#, C/C++, Python, JavaScript, ASP, PHP, Java, or Go.
• Experience working in cloud-native environments.
• Experience with Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, XP, LSD, and FDD.
• Knowledge and experience in telecommunications and project management.
• Extensive hands-on experience with RESTful APIs, including design, integration, and troubleshooting.
• Proven ability to manage incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Understanding of DevOps culture, processes, and tools.
• Knowledge of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery methodologies and tools.
• Experience with unit, integration, smoke, and static code analysis testing.
• Knowledge of backlog item estimation.
• Extensive knowledge of core internet and networking protocols, including HTTP, DNS, WebSocket, FTP, SSH, and SMPP.
• Experience managing code repositories, branching strategies, and collaborative workflows using version control system tools.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience with programming and markup languages including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Java, Ruby, SQL, XML, JSON, YAML, C, Golang, and Python.
• Extensive experience with relational and non-relational databases, including MariaDB, Oracle, and MongoDB.
• Experience administering operating systems including Linux, Windows Server, and Unix.
• Strong knowledge and experience with shell scripting for automation and system administration.
• Proven expertise in software development, including application design, coding, testing, and deployment.
• Strong knowledge of cloud-native architectures, including public cloud PaaS/IaaS, microservices architectures, and APIs.
• Flexibility to work with changing projects and priorities within short timeframes.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn new methods and processes.
• Good analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent technical, analytical, and communication skills.
