Lancet Laboratories is inviting applications for the position of Admin Clerk / Receptionist at its Entabeni Laboratory in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. This is a six-month fixed-term opportunity for individuals with strong administrative, reception, and customer service skills who are looking to gain experience in a professional healthcare environment.

The successful candidate will support daily laboratory operations by receiving and processing patient samples, managing reception duties, handling administrative tasks, and ensuring accurate documentation. Working at one of South Africa’s leading pathology laboratories, the role offers valuable exposure to medical laboratory administration and patient services.

Responsibilities

  • Sort and distribute laboratory samples according to standard operating procedures.
  • Register patient specimens and respond to related queries.
  • Dispatch specimens and monitor their progress through the laboratory.
  • Track sample deliveries to ensure timely processing and reporting.
  • Conduct hospital rounds to collect samples and deliver laboratory reports.
  • Handle administrative enquiries and customer complaints professionally.
  • Investigate delays in sample processing and assist in resolving issues.
  • Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping within the reception and work area.
  • Monitor stock levels and request additional supplies when required.
  • Manage the reception area and direct patients to the appropriate departments.
  • Provide professional and ethical customer service to patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Receive patient payments and follow approved banking procedures.
  • Record incidents and customer complaints accurately.
  • Prepare and scan patient forms using the laboratory scanning system.
  • Comply with Lancet Laboratories’ workplace policies and uniform standards.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
  • A BSc degree is an added advantage.
  • 0–1 year of relevant administrative or reception experience.
  • Computer literacy with good data entry skills.
  • Knowledge of laboratory information systems is advantageous.
  • Understanding of organizational policies and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Customer-service orientation with empathy and patience.
  • Good telephone etiquette and business numeracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work effectively within a team.
