Engagement Manager at The Nature Conservancy

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is recruiting an Engagement Manager to support the Nature for Water (N4W) programme across Africa. This is a two-year, term-limited contract with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The position is flexible and may be based in Tanzania or any African country where TNC has an established office.

Working alongside a Science Manager, the Engagement Manager will lead the successful delivery of place-based watershed investment projects by coordinating multidisciplinary teams, engaging diverse stakeholders, conducting financial and economic analyses, and supporting the development of Nature-based Solutions that improve water security and conservation outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Determine project scope and support overall project delivery.

  

• Mobilize and manage multidisciplinary internal and external project teams.

• Coordinate project implementation against agreed work plans and timelines.

  

• Identify, engage, and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and partners.

• Develop financial and economic appraisals, including financial models.

  

• Conduct research and analysis covering technical, environmental, social, institutional, financial, and economic aspects.

• Assess ecosystem service benefits and evaluate watershed investment programmes.

  

• Present project findings in stakeholder meetings, publications, and conferences.

• Collaborate with knowledge management teams to produce thought leadership publications.

• Provide mentorship, guidance, and advisory support to project staff and direct reports.

• Undertake domestic and international travel as required (approximately 15%).

Qualifications

• Strong leadership and project management skills.

• Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and supervising staff.

• Financial modelling and economic appraisal capabilities.

• Experience evaluating business models and project structuring.

• Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

• Strong communication and presentation skills in professional English.

• Ability to synthesize complex technical information across multiple disciplines.

• Mentoring and advisory experience.

• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

• Strong collaboration skills within multicultural and interdisciplinary teams.

• Proficiency in Swahili, French, or Portuguese is an added advantage.

• Experience designing or implementing Nature-based Solutions projects is desirable.
