Control and Protection Engineer

Sihotech Engineering Company Limited is inviting applications from experienced and qualified professionals for the position of Control and Protection Engineer in Dar es Salaam. This full-time role is ideal for electrical engineers with extensive expertise in power system protection, substation automation, and electrical control systems who are passionate about delivering reliable and efficient energy infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in the design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of electrical control and protection systems. The role involves ensuring the safe and reliable operation of substations, protection systems, and automation interfaces while maintaining compliance with international engineering standards, utility requirements, and project specifications.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of control and protection systems.

• Develop protection philosophies, relay settings, and coordination studies.

  

• Supervise the installation and commissioning of substations, protection panels, and SCADA interfaces.

• Investigate system faults and analyze disturbance records to improve power system reliability.

• Review and approve technical designs, relay settings, and commissioning reports.

• Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, utility standards, and project specifications.

• Provide technical guidance to engineering teams throughout project execution.

• Coordinate activities with SCADA, telecommunications, and commissioning teams.

• Support quality assurance and regulatory compliance throughout project implementation.

Qualifications Required

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.

• Master's degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.

• Registered Professional Engineer with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).

• Valid ERB Practising Licence.

• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in control, protection, testing, and commissioning of electrical power systems.

• Strong expertise in High Voltage (HV) and Medium Voltage (MV) substation control and protection systems.

• Proficiency in protection relays, relay coordination, and power system analysis software.

• Sound knowledge of IEC 61850, SCADA integration, and substation automation systems.

• Strong project management and technical supervision skills.

• Good understanding of testing, commissioning, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.

• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
