Agri Finance Specialist at Vodacom Tanzania Plc

Vodacom Tanzania Plc is seeking an experienced Agri Finance Specialist to develop and manage digital lending solutions designed specifically for the agricultural sector. The role focuses on expanding access to financial services for farmers, Agri-SMEs, and other agricultural value-chain participants through innovative digital finance products.

The successful candidate will combine expertise in financial services, credit management, agriculture, digital lending, and partnerships to take products from pilot stage through scale-up. The position involves working with financial institutions, fintech companies, cooperatives, agribusinesses, NGOs, input suppliers, and government stakeholders to strengthen financial inclusion and agricultural financing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end go-to-market activities for agricultural finance pilots.

  • Develop rollout plans and coordinate the mobilization and training of field staff and agents.

  • Design appropriate incentive structures and track implementation milestones.

  • Identify and resolve operational challenges affecting product rollout.

  • Take ownership of loan portfolio performance.

  • Define collection processes, early-warning triggers, and restructuring rules.

  • Lead field recovery activities and work toward NPL and PAR targets.

  • Manage farmer-group onboarding and ensure KYC/KYB compliance.

  • Coordinate customer, merchant, and agent enablement activities.

  • Oversee KYC verification and channel operations.

  • Build and maintain relationships with input suppliers, agribusinesses, cooperatives, financial institutions, NGOs, and local government authorities.

  • Negotiate Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and co-financing arrangements.

  • Manage pilot governance in line with agreed milestones and budgets.

  • Prepare operational dashboards and fortnightly and monthly reports.

  • Provide regular updates to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support the development and improvement of digital agricultural lending products.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in digital lending, agricultural finance, fintech, or mobile financial services.

  • Knowledge of digital lending, savings, insurance, and agricultural financing models.

  • Strong understanding of agricultural value chains, rural banking, and financial inclusion.

  • Experience with digital platforms, credit risk models, and mobile money ecosystems.

  • Proven ability to develop and manage strategic partnerships with banks, Agri-Tech companies, and cooperatives.

  • Strong commercial and business development skills.

  • Good data analytics and insights-generation capabilities.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills.

  • Project and programme management experience.

  • Product development and digital financial services design skills.

  • Strong financial analysis and credit assessment abilities.

  • Analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
