Head of Operations at BRAC Tanzania Finance Limited

BRAC Tanzania Finance Limited is inviting applications from experienced and strategic professionals for the position of Head of Operations in Dar es Salaam. This is a senior leadership opportunity for a professional with extensive experience in microfinance, retail banking, financial services, or financial inclusion who can lead large-scale field operations while driving sustainable growth, portfolio quality, operational efficiency, and strong governance.

The Head of Operations will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and serve as a member of the Executive Management Team. The successful candidate will oversee field management, borrower acquisition, product expansion, branch performance, operational controls, risk management, digital transformation, and stakeholder engagement while contributing to the organisation’s strategic direction and social-impact objectives.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading the field management hierarchy and ensuring effective implementation of organisational strategy.

  • Driving borrower acquisition, product rollout, market penetration, and portfolio expansion.

  • Developing strategies for sustainable growth, client retention, and social impact.

  • Contributing to business planning, financial projections, and operational strategies.

  • Leading the development and implementation of the Annual Strategic Plan and operational targets.

  • Ensuring strong portfolio quality and operational efficiency across field operations.

  • Strengthening field supervision and operational controls.

  • Monitoring branch and regional performance using KPIs, dashboards, and management information systems.

  • Ensuring corrective actions are implemented promptly when performance gaps are identified.

  • Managing operational and portfolio risks and strengthening fraud-prevention measures.

  • Working with Risk, Compliance, Internal Audit, and Legal teams to strengthen governance.

  • Ensuring timely resolution of audit findings.

  • Maintaining effective internal controls throughout field operations.

  • Ensuring compliance with client-protection and responsible-finance standards.

  • Working with the Head of Innovation & Customer Experience to implement new products, channels, and digital solutions.

  • Integrating financial inclusion, women’s empowerment, responsible finance, and client well-being into operations.

  • Collaborating with BRAC NGO and other partners on social-impact initiatives.

  • Conducting field visits and engaging with clients to assess service quality and satisfaction.

  • Leading the adoption of digital transformation initiatives, including core banking, mobile banking, digital field applications, and management reporting systems.

  • Building high-performing leadership teams through coaching, mentoring, training, and succession planning.

  • Promoting accountability, collaboration, innovation, and performance excellence.

  • Leading large and geographically dispersed teams.

  • Overseeing workforce planning and succession management for field leadership positions.

  • Developing relationships with regulators, investors, donors, development partners, and other stakeholders.

  • Representing the organisation at industry forums, regulatory consultations, investor briefings, and other external engagements.

  • Strengthening BRAC Tanzania Finance’s credibility and influence within the financial inclusion sector.

  • Implementing safeguarding policies and the do-no-harm principle.

  • Ensuring staff, partners, and service providers receive mandatory safeguarding training.

  • Including safeguarding discussions in regular team meetings.

  • Reporting safeguarding incidents through appropriate organisational channels.

  • Supporting investigations and treating victims/survivors with sensitivity and respect.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • A Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Banking, Management, or another relevant discipline.

  • At least 10 years of progressive leadership experience in microfinance, retail banking, financial services, or financial inclusion.

  • At least 5 years of experience managing large-scale field operations with direct accountability for growth and portfolio quality.

  • Proven experience in scaling operations and delivering significant business growth.

  • Strong strategic and business-growth leadership capabilities.

  • Strong strategic execution and data-driven decision-making skills.

  • Ability to use analytics, dashboards, and performance metrics to drive operational performance.

  • Extensive experience in large-scale field operations management.

  • Strong portfolio quality management skills.

  • Knowledge of risk and fraud management.

  • Strong operational efficiency and performance management capabilities.

  • Excellent people leadership and team development skills.

  • Change management and cross-functional collaboration capabilities.

  • Strong knowledge of financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and operational cost management.

  • Willingness and flexibility to travel internationally.

  • Ability to work in distant locations.
