Application Developer at KCB Bank Tanzania

KCB Bank Tanzania is seeking a qualified and experienced Application Developer to join its technology team in Dar es Salaam. The successful candidate will support the development, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of banking applications, with a particular focus on Java and Spring Boot backend development.

This position is suited to a technology professional with experience in banking applications, digital banking platforms and IT projects. The role will involve developing scalable backend services, troubleshooting application issues, applying secure coding practices, supporting Agile development and working closely with business, product, QA and technology teams to deliver reliable banking solutions.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to application development objectives in line with the overall IT strategy.

  

• Analyse business and product requirements and develop scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.

• Collaborate with business teams to develop technology solutions for banking products.

  

• Work with QA testers, product analysts, developers and other stakeholders to deliver application features.

• Manage the application development lifecycle in accordance with IT policies.

  

• Support banking operations teams in resolving core banking application issues.

• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot complex technical problems.

  

• Implement proactive fixes and application improvements.

• Maintain secure coding standards and ensure compliance with banking regulations.

• Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog grooming and retrospectives.

• Evaluate requests for new applications and modifications to existing systems.

• Support project closure, user engagement, documentation and knowledge transfer.

• Develop Operational Level Agreements (OLAs) with Level 1 support teams.

• Identify innovative technology solutions that create business opportunities and mitigate risks.

• Contribute to product design and process efficiency improvements.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field.

• Professional qualification or certification in Java.

• Professional qualification or certification in Oracle Enterprise Architecture.

• Professional qualification or certification in ITIL.

• At least 5 years of total work experience.

• At least 3 years of experience with emerging technologies such as mobile banking, internet banking, digital loans or digital savings.

• At least 3 years of experience in banking operations.

• At least 3 years of experience working on IT projects.

• At least 3 years of experience in quality assurance.

• Strong Java development skills.

• Experience with Spring Boot and backend application development.

• Knowledge of banking applications and core banking systems.

• Experience with digital banking technologies.

• Knowledge of secure software development practices.

• Understanding of application lifecycle management and IT change management.

• Strong quality assurance and system troubleshooting skills.

• Knowledge of Agile methodologies.

• Ability to analyse business requirements.

• Understanding of banking regulatory compliance requirements.
