Head of Human Resources at FINCA Microfinance Bank Tanzania

FINCA Microfinance Bank Tanzania is inviting applications from experienced human resource professionals for the position of Head of Human Resources in Dar es Salaam. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this senior leadership role is responsible for driving the strategic direction and operational excellence of the bank’s human resources function.

The successful candidate will serve as a Strategic Partner, Change Agent, and Employee Advocate, leading talent management, performance management, organizational development, employee relations, and HR compliance while ensuring alignment with Tanzanian labor laws and FINCA Impact Finance’s global standards.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate HR operational strategies and advise executive leadership on human resource matters.

  • Implement policies across talent acquisition, succession planning, and organizational design.

  • Oversee performance evaluation cycles and Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) protocols.

  • Design and manage variable pay, merit increases, and bonus programs.

  • Ensure compliance with Tanzanian labor laws and employment regulations.

  • Maintain updated HR policies, job descriptions, and HR governance frameworks.

  • Oversee payroll compliance, audits, and regulatory reporting.

  • Lead staff retention and employee engagement initiatives.

  • Develop learning and development frameworks for employees.

  • Manage conflict resolution and employee relations processes.

  • Maintain high standards of workplace communication and organizational culture.

  • Ensure employee records are accurately maintained within HRIS systems.

  • Prepare analytical HR reports for the Management Board, Board of Directors, and Global HR Office.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, or a related field.

  • Postgraduate qualification such as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) is preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Human Resources.

  • At least 5 years of managerial or leadership experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of Tanzanian labor laws and employment regulations.

  • Expertise in compensation, benefits, payroll tax procedures, and labor relations.

  • Strong proficiency in HRIS software and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • High emotional intelligence.

  • Cross-cultural sensitivity and diplomacy.

  • Strong judgment with the ability to handle confidential matters discreetly.

  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
