Utilities Maintenance Planner at AB InBev Africa

AB InBev Africa is seeking an experienced engineering professional for the position of Utilities Maintenance Planner in Arusha. The role is responsible for ensuring that maintenance activities for utilities and related equipment are properly planned, resourced, and executed. This includes preparing maintenance plans, ensuring spare parts and resources are available, and optimizing planned maintenance activities to improve plant reliability.

The successful candidate will monitor the effectiveness of maintenance plans during outages, identify opportunities to reduce maintenance downtime, and ensure that all work complies with safety, environmental, VPO, and GOP requirements. The position also requires strong technical knowledge, leadership ability, and experience working in utilities engineering within an FMCG environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and healthy working environment.

• Maintain required safety and housekeeping standards.

• Plan effective maintenance, calibration, and repair activities for equipment.

  

• Plan activities that support optimization of the plant and associated devices.

• Locate plant, equipment, spare parts, and relevant technical documentation or systems.

  

• Develop effective maintenance plans.

• Plan repairs arising from inspection tasks and maintenance work requirements.

  

• Ensure required maintenance work is properly scheduled and executed.

• Continuously improve and optimize maintenance plans.

• Identify opportunities to reduce the overall planned maintenance outage.

• Ensure all required maintenance work is completed without placing the plant at risk.

• Apply VPO principles when carrying out maintenance activities.

• Understand, implement, and comply with GOP requirements.

• Sustain implemented maintenance and operational standards.

• Monitor maintenance-plan effectiveness during plant outages.

• Provide recommendations for improving maintenance planning and execution.

• Ensure the necessary resources and spare parts are available for planned maintenance work.

• Support effective coordination of maintenance activities within a multidisciplinary team.

• Encourage team members to participate in work planning, operational communication, problem-solving, and evaluations.

• Support continuous improvement of utilities maintenance operations.

Qualifications Required

• Diploma in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.

• Relevant trade qualification.

• Trade-tested Millwright qualification at N6 level.

• Electrical Technician qualification at N6 level.

• Ammonia CAT A & B Certification.

• 3–5 years of production engineering experience in an FMCG environment.

• 5 years of Utilities Engineering experience.

• 5 years of experience at supervisory level.

• Knowledge of brewing and packaging plants.

• PC literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

• Ability to operate effectively as a leader within a multidisciplinary team.

• Strong team leadership and team participation skills.

• Ability to encourage team members to participate in planning and operational activities.

• Ability to support problem-solving and evaluation processes.

• Ability to develop and mentor other team members.

• Strong personal vigilance and energy.

• Ability to plan maintenance activities effectively and optimize plant availability.

• Strong understanding of safety, health, and environmental requirements.

• Knowledge of VPO principles and GOP requirements is required.
